| Post subject: Two 8 yr olds, 5 Days in Shanghai |
A colleague of mine from the US is bringing his 8yr old son and friend to China in a few weeks and will spend a few days in Shanghai? On two of those days, he has a work commitment and wants to find an all-day activity for the two boys. Any suggestions for fun things to do for the kids that is tried and trusted??
Thanks in advance... |

I'm assuming there will be an adult with them - or are you looking for an activity where supervision is provided?
If it's the former - one day at the Science & Technology Museum and one day at Century Park. |

Both actually. With Dad on 3 days, supervised on 2 days. |

The aquarium is quite good but doesn't take all that long to go around. |

Science and technology museum. Many interactive games they will love there. |

Don't think there is any place to leave two 8 year olds by themselves. Unless someone you know and trust can spend the day with them. Or a young foreign student looking to make some extra money.
As activities to do together with an adult, I would say definitely The Science and technology Museum, Century Park or Zhong Shan Park, Think Town (in Amanda Plaza, somewhere not too far from Zhong Shan Park -- best during the week, crowded during weekends), Safari Park (near the airport), maybe a river cruise and a few hours at the kids market shopping for toys. |

This would be a bit of a waste of a way to spend your time in China (if it's your only time in China) but there's always ice skating, a movie and Tom's World (video arcade) at Super Brand Mall. Toss in lunch at Pizza Hut and dessert at Diary Queen and they'd never know that they'd left home. |

Agree that the aquarium is worth a visit. Even the zoo is not bad if you don't go in a weekend. Chinese zoo's are not always the nicest places to go to but the Shanghai one is better than most. |

O'Malley's i think has family days- check city weekend guide for more ideas. Go karting, rollerblading lessons in the space above the S&T Museum metro stop, or if the weather is fine- fly a kite! or an organized art & craft lesson. check the web for children's plays. |
