Post subject: Restaurants close to jing an temple

Yeah its a popular area but I've searched and couldn't come up with a good list.

Looking for some good places to eat around here, both lunch and dinner options.

Less emphasis on western food preferred, but any recommendation welcomed.

Thanks!

Hows that HK style place in the basement next to freshmart?

I like the brazil steakhouse (talked about a lot on this forum already) at the entrance to the jing an park.

Brazil steakhouse is good.

Shanghai Ren Jia is an OK option for local dishes, down the street above the bus terminal ( 869 Nanjing Xi Lu,) upstairs. Sometimes too much MSG, but there are dishes there I would go back for.

Saizeriya Ristorante e Caffe on Hua Shan Lu and block north of the Hua SHan Lu- Nanjing Lu corner and upstairs. Cheap italian, often crowded, but really not bad for the money.

Coconut Paradise on Fumin Lu near Yanan Lu is not a far walk and have consistently had good recommendations for SE asian type food.

With all the building going on in the area, I am sure there will be a lot of new ones popping up.

These are my favorites

-Coco Curry and the Hong Kong restaurant in the temple are good
-Despite some occasional service issues, NY Pizza is ok
-Wagas now on Jiaozhou/Xinzha
-Thai House on Wuding and Changde, and the nearby Uigur and Dongbei restaurants
-Western chinese (xian) restaurant at beijing and changde
-RU Cafe on Xinzha

what else do you guys have?

Xiao Lulu, next to South Beauty on Yan An Lu. Try the spicy fish there.
Dongbei Ren on Shanxi Lu, Yan An lu... not good for a diet though

I've only been there one time but the food I ordered that day was bad.

Understand you wanted restaurants close to Jing An temple, but it case you wanted better HK cafe food, go to Xin Wang on Xin Le lu instead.

this place is good, english menu too. The Lasagne from Pizza Italia in the basement food court near Fresh Mart is fantastic, everything else is OK.

Noodles and dumplings from the same food court are good.

Agree about Thai House and RU- a place for coffee and a cheesecake is C's House Of Flour on Beijing Lu (two blocks north of Nanjing road) and umm, Shaanxi I think (one block East).
C's is underneath another good Italian restaurant called Pasti, round the corner from Gourmet Cafe; great burgers.

no corn, not tuna- it does have slices of boiled egg, but I think they actually work.

Not xiao long bao, there's a Japanese place that does ramen and what I think the Japaneseys call gyozi. It's next door to the Cantonese place that's always packed out, you'll know it because there's only one ramen type restaurant in there.

Not Xin Le Lu. It's on Chang Le Lu between Mao Ming Lu and Rui Jin Lu. There is another Xin Wang in the mall named INFINITE on Huai Hai Lu which is bigger and better decorated. I personally think that Xin Wang is the best HK style restaurant in Shanghai. The one next to Frestmart is not bad as well.

Fomo is a great place to have some crayfish at times.

Dollar shop on the top of Bailemen Hotel is a pretty good choice for hot pot. The disadvantage is that this place is always full so that you need to wait for quite some time before getting a table.

It would have been much funnier if they had named this place "MoFo" instead of Fomo.

Bali Laguna, Indonesian restaurant inside the park. A bit overpriced for what it is, IMHO, but decent food, nice setting over the lake and good Pilipino service. The only very, very minor disappointment was that none of the waiters could speak a word of Bahasa, and I had been hoping to practice the three words that I know Sad

Rendezvous for Singaporean food lunch sets, next main entrance to Kerry Centre. I'm also looking for lunch places around same area. Tired of Element Fresh, Paul, Bellagio.

I have been to HK a few times and i think Xin Wang's food especially the milk tea is pretty close to what i had in hk most of time. Anyway I am not from HK so you probably know better than I do on this. Name one place on Chang Shou road if you like. I don't live far from there.
