Now that the Xiangyiang market is closed where is the best market for fakes, specifically, Coach purses, Nike clothes, etc.?

Science & Tech Museum off Line 2 @ Pudong, Nanjing Lu has a few, present yourself as a tourist, and you don't have to find em, they'll find you.

You can also go to Qipu lu for more selection...

But that place is so crowded. You have to watch your stuff closely and make sure you don't get pick pocketed or have your clothes switched out.

If you or your traveling companions don't like crowds, you won't want to go there.

585 Nanjing Lu is the Puxi alternative to Pudong

Nanjing Lu and Changdu Lu.

Personally...I prefer it to S and T

Which one has better prices? Nanjing or Science and tech?

S&T is closer to me so I go there, and Nanjing seems too crowded... with foreigners.

Gotta buy some more Rolexes before I go back.

S & T is cheaper, lower rent.

But at Nanjing Rd, go to hgher floors for lower overhead and more room to negotiate

And a better selection of a broader amount of stuff (sporting goods, software, clothes, bags, watches, toys, knick-knacks, pearls, souveniers) from what I have seen at S andT

p1atl10, I reckon that you prefer the Nanjing Rd because it remains you of the shoppings/markets in Thailand. The set up at Nanjing Rd is definately more tourisie than S&T.
I prefer S&T because of the space. Others prefer Nanjing Road because of its atmosphere.

The Price soley depends on you and how you negotiate. If you bring it down, and u get it cheaper then retail or other vendors, u got a deal, if not or get hustled, well....

Personally S&T is nice, best in Pudong and its not hard to travel to/from Puxi on Line 2, Nanjing Lu and a few hidden shops when you find them are great also.

Take some time to see Shanghai, theres alot of small odds/ends around town that have shops that sells the merchandise you need. As the shanghainese say "Shanghai/China has everything, long as you have money, its available."
ain't that the bleepity truth.

i recommend S & T and 3 pieces of advice on the prices..

BARGAIN, BARGAIN and BARGAIN

friend and i bought a sweater each there recently. it was priced at 580rmb. both of us were not too keen as it was turning warm even though it looked good.

the girl kept pestering us so to get rid of her, we suggested 200rmb.

yes - she agreed. ...

that is not the end...

a friend liked it so the following weekend we went back there.

on the way to the shop, we passed by another shop selling the same thing..

the girl there offered us 120rmb straight.

morale of the story - whatever they ask, take away half. it will be a good start.

First few months I spent walking around Shanghai 8-16 hours a day, totally aimlessly, always lost.

Key point there, always lost, so I have no clue where the places I went to are.

Odds and ends and secret shops? I am starting to doubt it's anything interesting at all. What exactly can be found that is interesting?

@ the PC mall in XJH I generally find the prices online in the US, grab what the retail price is with tax, convert it into RMB x 7, hit the PC mall, and generally go from there, in the end, if you bought the stuff outside of China that is Made in China to begin with, and get it cheaper, your a winner already. For clothes and non electronic merchandise, just give it a guess or compare prices from another source, and theres your starting point to not go over.

whtever the price ,ask one third or even less.better yet cut a zero.
if they say 500 ask for 50.
they will give you a weird look and ask" u must be joking"(thats a well practised tactic)u just giv a smile n walk .they shout behind u for half the price u, just wave ur hand n keep walking.they'll shout ok.ok..i get no profit.too bad blah..blh.
if they don't come behind u..don't worry all the shops have everything similar u might find that somewhere else.

watches all brands..the best price is 15 rmb.
(first time i bought a rolex for 100rmb,the second 60 rmb,recently 15rmb)
bags.40-60 depends on size
shirts -30 -40

glasses 10-20 rmb
