Or, just put on some dark glasses and use a walking stick and should not be a problem.

Many taxis will not stop if they see a dog. Dog is definitely not permitted on the subway. In fact, AFAIK, the only legal reason for you to have your dog out of the house is if you are bringing it to the vet.

if its a hand carryable dog, you may get away with it but if it takes off, its gonna be trouble. Still not a very dog-friendly palce. Most people are still scared of dogs...regardless of size.

go for it and take your dog for a train ride. Chinese are so scared of dogs, you wont have a problem finding a seat during rush hour...

Used a carrier to transport a small dog on the subway about 4 years ago.
Looked more like luggage so most people didn't notice.
Went from Zhangjiang to center of Puxi, including a change at Renmin Guangchang. Only did it once.

I was in restaurant the other day and some guy walked in with his dog. The manager told him that dogs weren't allowed which led to a big argument. The guy was Italian I think. I know in Australia, there is no way you can take a dog into a restaurant.

In most of Europe you can bring dogs in restaurants. In Shanghai, if its a small restaurant, you generally can too Wink

You were lucky!! When I was still a student I tried to carry a bunny on the subway but failed. Crying or Very sad The staff stopped me by the entrance and took me to see the station manager. The old man finally agreed to let me carry the bunny through after I 'begged' him for quite some time!! But I had to use some bag to cover the cage so nobody can tell what that is.
