Taiwan as a country and a culture in it's present form?
CKS came over about 50 years ago was it? Killed off a bunch of the indigenous folks....subjugated the rest to the KMT/Chinese rule.
I will admit that some of the best Chinese artwork and artifacts are in your National Museum...CKS brought them with. Is that the culture you refer to?
Or the indigenous Formosan culture you guys trot out for the tourists and pretend is yours?
I'm glad you can only go back 50 years Plat but Taiwan has been around a long time before that. Perhas you could read up on your history a little bit. CKS and the KMT killed off not only indigineous people but anybody who did not agree with the KMT's political leanings.
The only indigenous culture I know fairly well is from my wifes tribe. Yes plat she is Csou Aboriginal and I have lived in her village for the last 8 years in Alishan. But we don't trot out the tribal relics and dances for the tourists.
Many parts of the ceremonies even my cannot attend as they are rituals that only the men attand.

Ok, SatelliteTV, let me tell you something you might not quite know well about.
As I often posted on this board while trying to get off a meaningless debate, there exist truths only in three categories: the premier one within the assault range of high accuracy missiles that works at any time whenever the missiles is available, one in the big account cheques on occation that the missiles are unnecessary in peacetime, apart from the former two categories, there comes the weakest one as the truth in discussion that everything goes beyond that. |

Sheesh, it's getting to the point where I'm going to have to have music blaring in the background every time I open a thread!
Although the REM version of Wichita Lineman isn't bad.
P1atl10 - My husband like to start singing "The cow kicked Nelly in the belly in the barn" when he feels like irritating the hell out of me. His dad does it too. (Not to me in particular, just to anyone. ) There's another one he does, but thank whatever I can't remember what it was.
I think I'll go play The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald to get the stupid cow song out of my head though. :p |

I'm proud to be an American because we have the most infectious pop culture in the world and, yes, I know that Gordon Lightfoot is (was?) a Canadian but the Edmund Fitzgerald was traveling from Wisconsin to Detroit so we can claim it, right? |

Well, she sunk in Canadian waters, but...
since she sunk, she's all yours. (And the fact that it was an American ship I suppose. )
As for the song... we'll just split it.
But we'll give you Anne Murray and Celine Dion for free. |

And democracy?
Lastly in a chat room a decent Yank told me that democracy is nothing but a dump of siht.
I'm curious about that. |

Technically....
Shouldn't anyone from North or South America be called "Americans"?
We have Asians, Europeans, Africans, Australians....
Hehehe... That's a sure sign of the awesomeness of the US if US people can claim the continental title for TWO continents.
w00t!!!!!!! hehehehehehe

I can answer this easily. Democracy, as a concept, is a wonderful idea. But, there are no true democracies in existence, and it would never work anyway. The United States is a Republic with democratic systems.
If you let every person have their say and let majority rule, well, let's face it. You'd have the dumbest mob mentality making decisions on every level of government. A true democracy would be a nightmare.
It's like any form of government. Take Communism for example. Looks great on paper, but it DOESN'T WORK, because it inadvertently creates a class system of those with wealth and power and those without, which is exactly the opposite of what it's supposed to do. Human nature takes over.
So yeah, a real true Democracy, while it sounds like a wonderful idea, would never work, so it's ****. If the US were a true Democracy, it would have turned into a Christian Theocracy long ago. |

Oh and to add...
The US's founding fathers KNEW this, hence the US was modeled after a Representative Republic (with a little democracy thrown in.) |

I mean that guy also added a remark to me that "All the governments are tricks."
This is exactly the fresh words from his mouth. He said the two remarks when he was accusing U.S. governments. And I can also recall that he lives in Arizona.
Explain it, gunfhis, and your Yank fellows, please. I'm a little bit confused with this couple remarks. |
