Post subject: China telecom has hijacked my cell phone ringtone?

My friend called me last night and instead hearing my normal ringtone, it was some message about the earthquake in SiChuan. Is this happening to others? Call your own cell and you might discover that message.

I think it is a nice gesture to support the people of SiChuan but how long is this going to last? I must say this is vey weird. I mean, what's next?

It's part of entertainment that they need to 'cut' off during these 3days of mourning. Guess so..

Only Shanghai Mobile is doing this. If your number is from another city, you still have music.

Ok, Platty ... I just drank my anti-asshole juice so we've got five minutes ...

There is no China Mobile. China Mobile died a couple of years ago and now no longer exists, period. A couple of years ago China Mobile broke up into individual provincial companies each entitled <Provincial> Mobile. In Guangdong, for example, it is Guangdong Mobile (GMCC) and in Shanghai it is Shanghai Mobile (SMCC).

Again, China Mobile is now only a holding company for all provincial (and special cities like Shanghai) subsidiaries. Each individual company carries out their own policies and is run like their own little kingdom.

So, Shanghai Mobile is suspending the cute little music tones people hear when calling you. Those people using, say, Guangdong Mobile or Zhejiang Mobile still have music.

Ok, anti-asshole juice wearing off. Enough for now.

Don't worry. Since you are SnappySammy's blood brother, I will always go into non-asshole mode when answering your posts.
