| Post subject: Looksee Hotel Advice |
I am hoping someone here can give me some advice on which hotel would be the most centrally located to Jinqiao.
We will be coming on our look-see visit next month (with our 4yr old daughter) and have been given the following hotels as those to choose from:
1. Intercontinental Hotel
2. Ramada Plaza Pudong
3. Courtyard By Marriott Hotel Pudong
4. Holiday Inn Pudong
5. Novotel Atlantis Shanghai
6. Renaissance Shanghai Pudong
Since we are hoping to live in Jinqiao, we would like to stay close to the neighborhood, so that we can wander around a bit on our own and get a feel for the place.
Any recommendations on any of the above hotels would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Kim |

The Intercontinental Hotel in Pudong next to the Pudong PC Mall and before the Fuxing Tunnel to Puxi, that intersects with Zhangyang Lu, you can take Zhangyang Lu directly west to Jinqiao district in Pudong. I believe the Courtyard is on Dongfang Lu, its a few blocks from the Intercontinental but both are fairly close to get to Jinqiao district though. The others I'm not familiar with. I take Zhangyang Lu to get to Jinqiao (2 apt's there), its a straight shot, can't miss it. |

Ramada Plaza Pudong is JinQiao for all intent and purpose - I'd stay there, you'll be set for easy wandering of the neighborhood and you'll still be okay for seeing the rest of the city |

The Ramada is the only decent hotel in Jin Qiao with the Renaissance being next nearest (along with a nice Raddisson and a Crown Plaza) but the others are not near Jin Qiao at all.
There is not much near the Ramada to do though so I would chose the Raddisson Century Park if you are going to be here for a week or more with lots of free time. |

6. Renaissance Shanghai Pudong
Is the correct choice here. |

I second the Ramada suggestion if you truly want a feel for JinQiao - with a five minute walk you are in the heart of the JinQiao expat community - the housing communities, the restaurants, the shopping, the schools...
Renaissance is nice but it is not the "most centrally located to Jinqiao"
(but yes I am biased with 4 years in JinQiao) |

Depending on when you will be visiting, Jinqiao may be a little quiet as the exodus of expats for the summer draws near. If you daughter hasn’t outgrown an umbrella stroller I would bring one. As you truck around with the relo company it will be much easier on your daughter walking as little as possible. It will give you a few more hours each day to get the most out of your time here. Depending on which part of the world you are coming from, most small kids are usually toast be 2pm.
While in Jinqiao, you’ll have lots of restaurants to explore. Be sure to spend some time exploring Carrefour Supermarket to figure out what comfort food/family needs you will want to ship. The sidewalks are very good so you’ll have lots of walking if you so desire. Having your daughter on wheels will be a big plus! Warning, walk/crossing lights in Shanghai mean nothing, so be careful crossing the street!
It is getting warm quickly so pack light, take advantage of some fake shopping so bring an extra suitcase and be sure to bring mosquito repellent (i.e. OFF) and sunscreen.
Depending on how much free time your relocation company has in your schedule, would recommend you take your daughter to the Shanghai Aquarium and a trip to the top of the JinMao Tower, both are in Pudong. Also insist the relocation agent take you to the underground market at the Science and Technology Museum subway stop (in Pudong) to introduce you to the location and get a feel for bargaining. Grab a business card from any of the vendors so you can take a taxi back should you wish to do so before leaving town.
Good luck with your look see! |

Wow, Thanks everyone for all the wonderful advice. I am leaning towards the Ramada for it's location. I have looked at the Renaissance and it looks beautiful, but honestly we have 5 days to get in , find a home, schools and do our medicals and get out, so I don't think there will be too much downtime and with a 4yr old in tow we are all going to be toast by 2pm - lol.
CanadaKen you must know our daughter, she does not like to walk anywhere, so we will definitely be bringing her stroller. I know a lot of people will be gone for the summer break, but I still think we can get a better idea of the area by staying locally.
Thanks again,Kim |
