| Post subject: Credit Card with Mileage Points? |
Anyone know of a credit card that allows you to accumulate mileage points for One World or Star Alliance airlines? Thanks. |

In China? Don't think it exists.
There isn't one for One World or Star Alliance, per se. You will need to check with each member airline to see what they have to offer. |

if you don't know, probably best not to comment at all.
I have a ICBC gold card, it accumulates Shanghai Airline points, which is part of Star now.
I would expect though that trying to redeem said points should be a normal China process of arguing until i get my way. I assume they are not that advanced to handle such a task yet, and will try to cross that bridge when they come to it. |

or...can get a card out of your home country.
No lack of those...I have a United Visa.
Downside...be sure you understand the FX charges. This one has no additional charges for foreign transactions...lose a couple og points on the conversion though. But for me, being paid in dollars in the US, the cobersion loss is better than bringing dollars over here and watching them lose 8% a year..
Mat to your point....I use my United Card when I fly FM. Just to avoid the hassle of having to deal with them for any redemption. |

^ Mat is correct.
There are about a half dozen credit cards that give you points for Air China -- A Star Alliance member. If Mat says that Shangiai Airlines is also a member, then trust Mat.
Bank of China international credit card is also directly tied in with Air China as is the Merchants Bank / Air China credit card. Shanghai - Pudong Development Bank also has a Shanghai Airlines card.
Other credit cards also have a function to exchange points for Air China miles. Bank Comm has such a function as does ICBC.
Personally, however, Air China's frequent flyer program is shit. Miles expire after one or two years, it's a bitch to get an award seat and their frequent flyer program customer service is the shittiest imaginable. China Southern's program is far, far superior. |

It's easy, Mat. Real easy. Just call the new customer service number at 4006695588.
If you have problems, let me know. |

Yes. Both Air China and Shanghai Airlines are part of Star Alliance. So people have had bad experiences with these mileage clubs and redemption (esp. Air China)?
Are there better reward programs from credit cards in China? |

Not saying i've had bad experiences. I have an ICBC gold card, which is aligned with Shanghai Airlines. Every month or so i get a statement showing points, from Shanghai Airlines. It's in Chinese, so i can't read it.
What do i do with these points? who knows. But when i fly now, i show my United Airlines card so i get points on that.
There must be someway to change my points from credit card to UA miles, or even domestic flights, but i've put it in the too hard basket for now. |

Make sure the points are not expiring soon!

I don't think you can do that. You can only redeem your Shanghai airlines points from your credit card to fly with any Star Alliance member, which includes UA. |

What a moron. Do you ever know WTF you are talking about?
Yes, any ICBC can get you Air China miles. So can any PuFa, BankComm and even Bank of China international credit card.
You do not have to have a card specifically co-branded with the airline. Many banks offer general swap systems on all their credit cards. |

You can definitely get China Southern and, I believe, Air China. Not sure about Shanghai Airlines, though. Last I read on my monthly statement it is 18 points per mile. |

The link pat_togo gave was very useful. Thanks!
A lot of those cards also have free annual fees (if you use it a few times or spend a certain amount in a year). I didn't know mileage cards can be free! It sounds too good to be true! Is there a fee each time I use it? Maybe there are other hidden charges? |

China Southern Airline's frequent flyer program (FFP) is light years better than Air China's. First of all, miles never expire once you reach a minimum of 15k -- or thereabouts. Secondly, it is easy to book reward travel.
Air China has outsourced their FFP to a bunch of retarded monkeys who are just dickheads. |

You can't change your miles earned on the credit card to any airline but Shanghai Airlines. But you should see about redeeming them lest they expire. |

From the link above, I see ICBC has a gold card with Shanghai Airlines. 中国工商银行 牡丹上航国际信用卡 金卡 航空卡 18RMB or 2USD = 1 mile. |

Every credit card issuing bank in China offers free annual fee if you use the card more than a certain number of times (usually 5) or for a certain amount (sometimes 5,000 RMB) per year. Every bank. The only exception is for platinum cards issued by Chinese banks. They do not waive the annual fee for them unless you spend about 200k RMB per year on the card.
No, there is never a fee for each time you use the card unless you use it to take cash from the ATM or via a teller. |

^ That sounds great! I also saw China Southern and Hainan Airlines on the list. How many miles / points do you think is needed to go to Sanya?
By the way, China Southern is part of Sky Team (Delta, KLM, Northwest, Continental, etc.). |

ICBC has a Hainan Airlines card. Hainan Airlines is one of the airlines that you cannot generally get miles on off any credit card unless it is specifically co-branded with Hainan Airlines.
Not sure how many miles you need on China Southern to go to Sanya. From Guangzhou to Beijing you need about 15k -- one way. |

^ 15000 one way??? If 15RMB = 1 mile, it'll take me 10 years to get enough for just a domestic ticket! |

Just checked. Guangzhou - Beijing is 15k one-way.
Either start using your card more or find a Sugar Daddy. |
