How far is this Jinshan district? I see it on the map, but haven't got a clue how far it is. Been to Qingpu, Song Jiang, Minhang, but not Jinshan. |

I suppose for China it's not a bad beach.
The water is all sectioned off so you get to swim in the "clean" water as opposed to the actual sea. They have small boats you can rent out and tout around in, and jet skis too I believe, although I don't think you're actually allowed to drive them. In both cases someone goes out with you (which kind of sucks for the jet ski)
Also have an area where you can futz around on dirt bikes and the like, and new shops are opening (although the one spot where I'm still waiting for them to open is starting to look a bit run down, and the stuff has only been up a year...), then of course the standard beach area where you can build sand castles and stuff.
They have a FIVB tournament there every year (during May holiday), but not sure if you're allowed to play in the building at any other time.
The place is usually no where near as crowded as the downtown beach, and not a lot of people seem to go into the water. There's a nice boardwalk spanning the beach where you can people watch, and umbrellas set up in various places to get out of the sun.
I'm going to have to take a look now, because I was down there for the FIVB tournament, and didn't even notice where this parking lot is! (Unless it's the one near my school, and they're just going to rip one of the buildings nearby down).
There's also a small zoo near the beach, and a park nearby that's not too bad. Lots of little hawkers come out during the summer months, and since Jinshan isn't over run with foreigners yet, they're usually pretty receptive to not completely ripping off the foreigners.
All in all not bad if you're looking for a place that is less crowded than downtown. |

It's about an hour away. You can catch a bus for 10RMB at the Xi Nan Qi Che Zhan near Jin Jiang park. |

Sounds pretty nice actually. How is the sand on the beach? clean / "lush" enough to feel comfortable just lying on it? |

Yeah, I think they imported it from Hainan Island, so if the sand there is nice, the sand here should be the same.
Sand in the "building" (sandcastle) area seems to be denser and wetter, and same with the dirt bike area, but near the water just seems to be standard white sand! |

Is this the same as Bin Hai Jin Sha?
I went there last year - sounds similar to Meg's description, where they cordonned off the sea from the beach to keep the mud flows from the Yangtze from the water.
I went there on a very hot weekend and it was absolutely packed. The water, though cleaner than the sea, had a slightly yellow tinge to it. This wasn't surprising given the ridiculously long queues they had for the toilets. |

I don't think it is because we don't have a golf course here. (Or if we do, it's really well hidden since the Bin Bai is like 250 Hectares.)
I've only ever seen the water at the Jinshan beach look like pool water actually.
Just checked with the SO, and he's also sure that there is no golf course here currently. Like I said, if there is one, it is *really* well hidden. Plus all the pages I've seen mention Pudong and Nanhui. And from one site:
"The Club is located in the southeast side of Pudong; 20 minutes drive to Pudong International Airport, 50 minutes to Jin Mao, close to Universal Studio & Lingang Industrial Zone.
The Club is well connected by highway and the maglev train soon to be opened will bring the Club to the heart of the city within minutes. Daily shuttle service is also available for members and guests from Lujiazui Driving Range."
So yeah, different place. Where I live is out in the sticks by SPC. Oh, you can also go mud crab hunting just off to the side of the beach! If that sort of thing appeals to you. |
