Confucius, the great "genius", is to blame here. Complete idiotic cnt.
Really...there is little from Confucius that you could make good use today. Even the "respect for the elder" thing is completely abused sometimes, and carefully played to exercise control over younger generations (guilt based, in the ugliest style).
Funny thing is this: there was one, and only one fella that wanted to end with all this "tradition", and everyone says he is all bad and shiat. I guess the people that wrote about him never lived here to understand the importance of changing this "mentality".
Reminds me of a certain Nick-la from this website that would sneeze on elevator buttons with his mouth uncovered just to "get even". Yeah, the same nick-la that wanted to register www.ShiatsThatLookLikeDicks.com.

You never noticed that before ? They've been doing it for centuries. Used to be really bad in Shanghai. especially around September but now they've planted concrete on so much cropland that you don't notice it downtown anymore. |

This is the funniest thread ever. BTW, if financially possible, this is why you get a membership at a posh gym and see less of those people. The rich are still classless and tacky, but rather than the 10 out of 10 disgusting people with disgusting habits you see at Physical the ratio becomes 5 out of 10.
Additionally, this is why I go to the gym at 7a.m. and never take showers in there. It's disgusting. I don't touch or use anything, I just go there, work out, and go home. Saves me a lot of stress, actually. |

I've heard this a few times on this site but never before. Admittedly I know nothing about Confucious and a quick wiki article I read about his 'teachings' there seemed nothing that could be constrewed as what you are implying. Could you explain it a bit further what you mean?

I wonder if price has anything to do with quality?
The more expensive the membership, the fatter the clientele?
Same with restaurants.
The higher the floor, the food (and drinks) gets progressively worse and more expensive. |

This is not at all considered loss of face! I think this is even considered manly behavior by some sort of horribly distorted Chinese logic. After all, China invited the blow dryer more than 200 years ago, so who are we stupid foreigners to say anything about how it should be used!! Arrogant!! |

A lot of people get the idea that it's the 'low sum' of 3000RMB that people pay for commercial gyms here the 'reason' for all this distasteful behaviour.
Fact of the matter is, 3000RMBis a bloody inflated price for such service (I say service because the managements in Physical for e.g. do absolutely NOTHING about these problems).
I used to get a gym 3x better than Fitness First here, nice white clean towels included, for the equivalent of 3000rmb back home. And that's in a 'developing country' mind you. Over here, they think 3000RMB is like buying into some kind of luxury. Even the gym staff are really cocky and fools around the machines like anyone else.
As as much as a colonising foreigner this might sound, there is a high level of selfish behaviour amongst local people. They are so ready to chuck trash juuusttt far enough from their own doors because then it won't be their problem anymore. Though I really wonder if this is a behaviour cultivated from back in the darkers days of governance.
Oh and has anyone seen girls who WEIGH themselves after EVERY routine? Run for 10 mins, Weigh self, Do 10 stairmaster reps, Weigh self. I'd be worried if anyone was losing weight that quickly -_- |

Totally. The weighing machine at Physical XJH is next to the free weights area for women. Since barely any local women dare to handle weights, I normally camp out there and watch one after another, get off the machines, strut over in their expensive but gym inappropriate Juicy Couture bum skimming shorts and weigh themselves. And then watching them get that REALLY disappointed look on their faces because they haven't lost an ounce of weight.
Oh and then there's the cling wrap mania too. Some people are so going to end up with patches of fungus growing on them. |

One time I went to the gym and I saw this Shanghainese guy putting a gerbil up another guy's arse. I was kind of shocked at the time but then I realised I was caught in some space time thing so I just thought 'whatever' and carried on blow drying my nuts. |
