| Post subject: Candidates Debt = Donors' Responsibility ??? |
Obama asks contributors to help Clinton with debt
* Story Highlights
* Sen. Hillary Clinton has amassed a campaign debt of about $22 million
* $12 million of that is money she loaned to the campaign herself
* Obama didn't direct supporters to help her but said they should if they wanted to
From Candy Crowley CNN
(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama has asked top contributors to help his former rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sen. Hillary Clinton, retire her debt, an Obama campaign source said Tuesday.
Sen. Barack Obama is to campaign with Sen. Hillary Clinton in Unity, New Hampshire, on Friday.
Sen. Barack Obama is to campaign with Sen. Hillary Clinton in Unity, New Hampshire, on Friday.
Obama did not direct members of his National Finance Committee to contribute to Clinton's campaign, the source said, but asked them to do so if they were so inclined.
Clinton suspended her campaign and endorsed Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination this month.
She has amassed a campaign debt of about $22 million, but about $12 million of that is money the New York senator loaned to the campaign herself.
Individual donors can contribute $2,300 to individual candidates.
Don't Miss
Clinton and Obama have scheduled a joint campaign appearance Friday in Unity, New Hampshire.
Obama said Tuesday that he had spoken with Clinton by phone earlier in the day as well as on Sunday.
"We had a good conversation," he said. "We're looking forward to seeing each other tomorrow and campaigning on Friday."
So remind me again why it is "imperative" that a CANDIDATES debt be repaid by SOMEONE ELSE ? I mean is the following not true ?
a. The candidate willingly chose to participate in the election.
b. The candidate willingly borrowed AND lent herself money, with the full understanding that she might not win.
So how exactly does the candidates decision magically become the responsibility [read: pawned off on here] of: the donors, the tax payers, or anyone else EXCEPT the candidate themselves ?
Someone explain that to me so that I've got a better understanding of financial accountability.
Thanks. |

Of which $12 million is money she loaned herself...and Obama asks donors to help repay that if they feel so inclined? Yes...Obama did inhale some marijuana in his younger days.
I say let her dig herself out of debt. Maybe it'll teach all them politicians not to spend wrecklessly on their campaigns. |

I think Obama thinks it is stupid, and is just mending fences. |

Just the sound of all that trash is repulsive, fcuk, with that mentality why stop there ?
Why not default on your home loan, auto loan, education loan, etc. etc. etc. ?
And just let everyone else flit the bill.
POS fcukers, get off your asses and get back to work.

politicians are smarter than that, this is a ploy to gauge the public's feeling about 'debt'. if enough people donate money to hillary, Obama, if elected, will push again to transfer federal deficit to the public sector like B. Clinton did so the masses can 'feel good' about having a balanced yearly budget, while the national debt still grows. Oh, Bill didn't mention that. |
