Post subject: Need Sat. TV -- will bolt box work?

I'm caving in and looking to get Sat. TV -- basically to get the Australia Network for news and sport and hopefully some of the Olympics.

I've got the dish and a 'Bolt' branded box installed correctly from the last tenant so I just need the card.

Any recommended places to get the card and how much should I be looking to pay?

So you're saying the BOLT box can't handle the encryption?

Can other people confirm the Australia Network doesn't work on their BOLT box?

Well, highly confirmed on X-SAT box, too. I wouldn't get too uppity. If you like "smart card error",or "card upside down" - or other ANNOYING error messages on your screen - I suggest you get very friendly with Mr. Satellite TV. PM might do the trick.

I think that the halcyon days are over for Dream TV for those who prefer DW and Australia Network.

I've been doing a bit of reading and noticed that the Australia Network actually broadcasts for free and you can set up the channel on your own equipment?

The Australia network even distributes encryption cards for free for events like Rugby ect which is encrypted.

If I just want some news from home and some sport, that would be an okay solution, right?

Yes check out Pacific Satellite, they have a system with Australia Network that costs RMB1,800 , no card required, however the dish is rather large, so suitable only for large balconies or houses.

I already have a satellite dish, why another?

SatelliteTV> Are you saying the company you work for has the rights to the Australian Network and other Western TV in China? Also, if I pay for the service through you, it is totally legitimate?

When I say legitimate, I mean in sense of allowed in China (a permit, I guess?) and a legal feed from where ever you're shipping it in from?

Sorry if this is a lot of questions but I'm just getting up to speed on the whole process.

If you want to install a Satellite dish in China legally, you must apply to the government. If you don`t, it is illegal. But nobody will apply because everyone know if you are not a VERY IMPORTANT PERSON you can not the their approve. So everyone install ILLEGAL dish. But too many people do the illegal thing because our government is always sleep. Any time he wake up he will go to punish some of those people---Sure not all people will be punished. This law is very old called NO.129 order.
Very notorious.... After this year this law is very likly to be terminated, after the Olympic games.

OK, FYI. As if things could not get any unclearer, it has been about 5 weeks since I lost Dream and I finally called my sat tv guy. Because Dream is supposedly now only available from the Co or authorized local dealers, which I'm pretty sure my sat guy is not, I expected I would have to purchase another package. Surprisingly, I did not. After a quick switch of receivers, I am now again watching Dream programming. I have all channels and the quality is better than before.

Then either you have Homecast receiver with the old BLUE Dream TV card which has no access or another pirate box.

The new GREEN card nagra3 receivers are happily receiving Australia network.

Just go to OMalleys or Big Bamboos to see. They got their Dream TV from me.

Or just drop in and see Mat at the Shed, his are fine too.

You need to buy the Crystal box with the new GREEN Dream TV card. If you dealer sold you anything else you have been ripped off and should ask for a refund.

Maybe. The point is I now/still have most of the Dream channels I had before my Bolt box lost reception 6 weeks ago. I don't have the Australia Network (don't think I had it before--only ABC) but the picture quality is much better.

Based on all the ads and warnings this spring I was under the impression that no box but the new box and card would work?

By the way, there was no charge for the new receiver as I was still under warranty. If I renew in a couple of months I need to pay RMB $400.

The change is that Dream TV have a new encryption system they were planning to implement completely on 01 June. Dream TV have had to delay that but it will happen. Australia Network and DW were moved across which is why only those with the new cards can watch them. Same for Ben Sports 1 which carries the EPL.

Australia Network, DW, and Ben Sports1 are on the Dream TV package.

That is the million dollar question which nobody is prepared to answer.

At first it was all or nothing by June 1. Then there was word of delays and reports that some boxes, like my Bolt pooched, while others continued working. For now, Dream for me is still a go--minus a few channels that, quite frankly don't make or break the package.

I'd hesitate to say this will last, and I am not paying new money for Dream from my local sat guy. At some point Dream may actually pull the plug, but this is certainly not the situation they were warning about last spring

Actually all the channels are broadcast on Nagra3. The ones you can watch are still on Nagra1.

As to when it completely moves over that is for Dream TV to decide. They can do it anytime they feel they are ready and have enough customers shifted over.

Taking Australia Network and DW certainly helped. I think you will see a few more channels go off soon as well.

I said they would upgrade receivers for new cards which they have done. I advised that all the channels would be migrated to Nagra3 which has been done.

You can always wait and not buy anything until it is all off.

Yes there have been delays. SO be patient. Laughing

Australia Network is broadcast free to air. Problem is you need a 1.8m dish, which in most instances here, is impossible.

I've got the full system from Jim at SatelliteTv and it is all good. All of my friends have lost it at home, but mine still good. And by the sounds of it, more channels to be lost soon.

Just don't switch off that JesusTV mate, you'll have everyone up in arms.
