Post subject: Am I missing something..

I've been looking for a place to board my dog while on Holiday..
I visited Jialiang in Pudong and found it to be a bit of a dump.. Paradise Kennel is not bad but it's an hour away and there's no vet on staff. I left my dog at PAWS for one night and I swear he was never let out of the cage, at all, because his bed was soaked in urine and he NEVER goes on his bed.
Is that all there is?
I'm from the US and I know the standard here is going to be different but I'm extremely disappointed by what I've found..

Any other suggestions?

We've been using a pet sitter for the last year for our cat. She used to work with one of the western vets (not Paws) here in shanghai.

We were gone for a month two times and she'd send us photos and updates via email. I can always tell who our cat likes and doesn't like and he really likes her alot. I know she sits for dogs as well as she's also a dog trainer...PM me and I'll give you her number and email.

Hi there,
I just finished using Paradise Kennel and was throughly impressed with their service. Jackie one of the owners personally drove to our home in Pudong and picked up Bruno in her car and brought him to the boarding facility. Every week we received pics, emails and a short home movie of Bruno playing, swimming and running around. Last week Jackie again drove Bruno back to our home and dropped him off. For vet services out there she has a vet she can call should an emergency arise. Also her prices I think are reasonable it works out to approx. 500 RMB a week. I felt better leaving him there then leaving him with our ayi.....

Thanks for the info on Paradise.. I have been there and I like the facility but I didn't know anyone who used them.. they seemed far and didn't have vet care on staff.. I'll give it a try.. I've got to relax about my dog a bit.. it's a different world over here.

as for the other response.. No I don't have an Ayi..

I have used Bark for kenneling and although the place is VERY small they do take very good care of the animals and there is a great Vet in the same street that they work alongside. However, due to its size its more suited for small dogs. I, however, have a large dog but its suitable to send her there for short stays such as long weekends. I also know a few other people who send their dogs there are they are very happy.

Ooops my mistake......sorry Paradise Kennel and Tigerduck for the misinformation. Now that I am retracing my information it appears that Jialiang Kennel in Pudong takes cats not Paradise..........sorry if this caused any inconvenience for anyone.

Mmh, what a pity Confused

Has anyone experience with Jialiang in Pudong?

Jolynne - is it possible to get an "emergency" nursing place through scaa?

I can't return to Shanghai unitl December and now the company of my husband may require him to return to Europe for 6-8 weeks. Wonderful. I really hope we are spared Rolling Eyes

Hi Tigerduck,
By an "emergency nursing place" do you mean a temporary foster home for your animal? Please elaborate on this so I may answer your question.......

Cheers!!!

Hello Jolynne,
yes, it would be only temporary - around 6 to 8 weeks. And of course we would pay for everything.

I still hope that my husbands company won't send him back to Europe BUT since they tend to make their decisions rather "on the spur of the moment" (like, ok, please come tomorrow) I'm a bit worried right now. We don't have an Ayi and unfortunately the few people we got to know during our 2 month Shanghai stay can't take a cat for such a long time Confused )

Our cat is female, she already has all immunizations BUT she isn't spayed yet because she is still too young (around 12-13 weeks).

Hi Tigerduck,
Sorry for the late reply...okay as of right now we are overloaded with cats and kittens and that means that we have no available foster parents. My recommendation is to call Jialiang Kennel and ask them to board your cat for you. They have a very nice cattery and it is secure. Please take a look at their website..........www.jialiang.com

Let us know how it works out for you!!!

Hello Jolynne,

thank you for your answer Smile

Well, after having a look at their homepage + looking for "firsthand reports" on this board I can't say that I really want them to take my baby cat Rolling Eyes

We are still trying to find another solution(and of course hoping that we wont need a catsitter at all Smile )
