Beerthirty soon.
With kudo's and a plagerism acknowledment to SmartShanghai...
Just blew coffee out my nose when I read this:
Your pal Da Admiral headed up to Beijing for the first time ever to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of our nation's capital, and I have to say Beijing really agreed with me. Went to the Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City, and some other shite that I forget, and the Summer Palace ... quite lovely.
The only downside for the trip was that I was unlucky enough to visit the Summer Palace on the exact same day as the national finals for the "Everybody Walk like a **** Idiot" competition.
Yep. 52,000 of China's best worst walkers were on hand, competing for the crown "Worst **** Walker in All of China, 2008" and competition was fierce. Last years champ Apple Chen from Hubei was on hand, walking like a total fool, looking to regain the title, with his trademark "text-message-your-friends-while-200-people-are-behind-you" technique. And Shirley Huang from Anhui had an ingenious move to get into the semis: she halted a good thirty people in their tracks behind her, while she spent two minutes taking a photograph of a tree.
But when the dust settled it was new-comer Tony Chow who took the title in a Cinderella story of obliviousness to other people. Chow clinched the crown with a slow walk, coupled with a pause to accept a text, into a slow start, into a pause to dial out, into a flat-out stop to look around to see where he was going, into an 180 degree turn to walk right into the person directly behind him -- all this with 347 people in various stages of exasperation trapped in his wake.
It was a thing of beauty.
Said one judge: "It like he's in a dream and in his dream he's walking inside a gigantic museum. He just has absolutely no **** clue that there are 50,000 other people trying to exist and travel by foot in the same space. Marvellous. He's one to watch. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him in future competitions." |

Reggie must have been there, he left a message..
Oktoberfest revellers shun beer for condoms
Published: 7 Oct 08 15:53 CET
Online: http://www.thelocal.de/14743/20081007/
Cold and clammy weather at this year’s Oktoberfest might have put some visitors off beer, but it also apparently encouraged people to cuddle up for warmth – and buy more condoms.
* Six million visit Munich's beer bash (5 Oct 0
* The Local's guide to Oktoberfest (19 Sep 0
Some six million revellers at the Munich festival quaffed 6.6 million litres of beer and devoured 104 whole oxen. But lousy weather – rain and temperatures around 11 degrees Celsius – meant beer consumption actually dropped by five percent compared to last year.
Still, that didn’t mean the 175th Oktoberfest wasn't a good party. According to daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung on Tuesday, the chilly weather inspired lots of Wiesn visitors to huddle closer together for warmth - which seems to have had wider repercussions.
The paper reported that Munich pharmacies sold record amounts of condoms during the 16-day beer festival. Some store inventories were completely cleared out of prophylactics. Condom maker Durex said they sold 1.5 million rubbers during the last fortnight – 21 percent more than the entire month of August.
Gerald Schreiber, a marketing manager for Durex, expressed his excitement over the potential synergies of the world’s largest beer orgy and his company’s prophylactics: “With that kind of turnover maybe we should think about developing a special Wiesn condom!”
Schreiber did not indicate whether the company would consider naming any future Oktoberfest condom the Weißwurst, or if they would opt instead for the more traditional Bavarian blue and white checked colour scheme. |

hmmm, kinda hard to follow that post eh?
good morning boring. missed out on beer thirty and the rest last night as a last min meeting burned out whatever energy I had left and so crashing out was the only good alternative. On the otherhand, no signs of the cold anywhere so...woohoo!
busy day ahead with the Sat coffee then chilli cook off, then unfortunately an afternoon of work as the company decided to hold a mandatory staff meeting today. Bleh! And since photos will be taken, guess i had better show eh? |

Is it just me or is this the STUPIDIST thing ever? No better way to kill any remaining motivation for work than calling your team in on a w'end. Wankers... |

Keep telling yourself that. Hopefully the Shed will be reopened soon enough for some much needed therapy time. |

Mandatory Staff Meeting on a Saturday? One of the colleagues got a bug up their arse and has to show some form of power? Bugger that. Skip it. Or better yet, Bloody Mary's all afternoon at Bubba's. You show up drunk, and all they smell is tomato juice on your breath. |
