Post subject: How to get HTC diamond?

Hi there.
Just wondering what is the best way to put my hands on a HTC diamond.
Unfortunately I have no chance to travel abroad and it looks like I cannot find it here in SH- this is why I was thinking of buying online from some US site (or HK?).
Any advice about that?
topics:
a) eshop reliability
b) delivery to China
c) duties at import? Any idea?
d) tech issues (compatibility, unlocking, charger voltage)
e) feasibility.

Pls suggest if I have to move away from my mind just an insane idea.

Thx

Many stalls are selling at Level 2, Modern Electronics mall at XiangYang Lu / Fuxing Lu junction for RMB4000+, plus many other models as well! You will be spoilt for choice, you can opt for parallel import price or legally imported price.

But able to speak chinese or be with a local buddy will make your trip hassle free.

I was searching for HTC Diamond here in Shanghai also, and I found it at the eletronic mall near Babaiban. I found it in 2 shops, but it had no english menu. So, it's fake? And it was around rmb5000!
Now I'm looking to buy the HTC touch diamond...let's see if I am luckier!

Since it runs Windows Mobile you have to check for an English version, or maybe you can update your phone with an English ROM (look on HTC website for download). That's what I did with my trinity.

They are sold as Dopod Diamond Touch here. I've seen them in almost every phone mall. The Yolo under Cloud 9 at Zhong Shan park for example and in Carrefour.

Fast update:
Have been to XiangYang Lu and found it at 4000 including spare battery and installation of Windows mobile in English.
Very nice mobile!!
The fact is that I write lots of email for business and using its onscreen keyboard is really unviable solution.
I have decided to go for a HTC touch pro (diamond+keyboard) but it lloks like it is not around yet.
Has anyone spotted it somewhere?
Pls help further or suggest when it can be aroud, if anyone knows.
Thanks
Ed

Where is XiangYang Lu? I came to Shanghai a week ago so I'm not very familiar with the town as of yet Smile I can't find it at the subwaystation map though :/ Some quick directions would be great ^^

Is it an English version on it, or do they install it after you ask for it? Also, are you certain that it's genuine and not a counterfeit?

Do you know if the store have any insurance options for it?

The closest thing I've found is Ebay. You can get it for $950, but I have no idea how customs and such work from HK > mainland :/

Cheers!

EDIT: <3 Google maps. I found the street, could you specify which store/street no. please? Very Happy

When you purchase your Touch Diamond make sure that the ROM is 1.93.401.2 or higher, otherwise upgrade to this ROM right away as it fixes many of the early minor problems with this phone. Also many tweaks and plugins now available to make this phone simply superb.

as it has been suggested, it is at "XiangYang Lu / Fuxing Lu junction "

Well, I guess not, they are HTC phones and here the official one is dopod on sale at Xujiahui at 5280 (not sure yet)

Well same as above. they take half a day to install windows mobile in English. I guess that HTC is not supposed to have Windows Mobile Chinese installed at factory, since Dopod should be the brand which delivers to China.

While you are looking around for the Touch Pro, don't forget to also look at the new HTC S740 which is considered Touch pro's baby brother. Basically the same features as the Touch Pro including keyboard but without the touch and a little smaller. Specially designed for people that do a lot of email and texting which I believe you are looking for.

Not sure if it can help to make your choice .
HTC being a Taiwanese brand, I have found this offer on Pchome.com.tw

http://shopping.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DGAL03-A274 26375&SR_NO=DGAS0A&ROWNO=3

HTC Touch Diamond 3.5 G at NT$ 21,900 ( = US$ 690 , including door to door delivery)

PChome is a major online distributor of 3C items, very consistent in quality and competitive in prices. I just bought yesterday a new 500 Gb external HDD with enclosure brand Zynet for NT$ 2,600 (= US$ 82) (delivered even on sunday afternoon ; http://shopping.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DGAN04-A300 99773&SR_NO=DGAN04&ROWNO=2 )

I know it cannot help you to buy in Shanghai, but since most upper-end electronic items are either made in Taiwan, or made by taiwanese companies, it may help you to compare.

Mr. Totomolo, we are also looking for this external HDD, but couldn't find it here Sad
I think that next time husband is going to Taiwan he need to take a look there!

thanks for the suggestion, but I took a look at it and it seems less powerfull...husband is worried that it won't work everywhere he needs!
ahhhhh, he wants a phone that even isn't being on sales here, and I need to run all around to get it! (my fault, I told him about the Pro!)

Renovator...a question for you: with your Diamond, can you read chinese hanzis when you receive a message? I'm asking because husband had a Dopod/HTC PDA that can't, I think isn't configured to do it or he needs to install a program to do it...
thanks

All of my emails, SMS, word documents etc., come over as sent. If written in English, then in English. If in Chinese Characters, then in Chinese characters. Can also mix and match such as receive SMS in Chinese characters and answer in English or receive in English and answer in Chinese Characters. I do have Mobem CE Star installed and could not use Chinese characters without this or similar program

PS: you can test Mobem CE-Star before you purchase to make sure it works properly on your phone at
http://www.ce-star.com/
You may need to test a couple of their versions as for example on my phone I chose CE-Star 2.8 R3c for Smartphone WM5/6 and it did not work at all so then tried CE-Star 2.8 R3c for WM5/6 and it worked perfectly. They also have pretty good, although not instant, tech support.

4000 rmb?

I'm really interested in what has been taken out for that price considering the Cheapest I've seen in HK is 4999HKD and roughly the same in TW.

There is 2 version sold in HK English vs Chinese. Store clerks tells me the English version can't input Chinese, which is what I'm looking for. I like reading menus in English and will be texting a lot in Chinese.

However my internet searches leads me to believe the English version comes with a copy of CE-Star NOT installed but on a CD.

Hope someone can confirms this an post some reviews.

fyi, it is also my understanding the Dopood officially sold in China don't have Wifi.

Well,
I went to the shop with my driver as a negotiator and interpreter.
They told me that it would have taken half a day to install Windows in English and the result would have been an HTC diamond with Windows Mobile English version.
Cannot add more - maybe I will have to install an application to be able to read and input chinese, but I don't know at the moment.
Michael T, I also need menus in English but be able to input Chinese at will also - if ytou have some hints pls share! Smile

I got one of the first HTC touch diamond units available and it came from Hong Kong and had a CD with extra stuff on it but no CE-Star. When I contacted HTC, they made me aware that different CD's contain different software depending on the markets where the HTC's are destined to go.

I had no problem because I contacted Mobem (CE-Star) and they allowed me to install a new version of CE-Star free of charge because I had it on my previous phone even though the version on my previous phone was totally different than what works on the Touch Diamond. I just downloaded the trial version and they gave me a new registration key free of charge. Nice people on tech support there too. The following is the only version of CE-Star that will work on the touch diamond: CE-Star 2.8 R3c for WM5/6. Either way, you can download the trial version before you buy if you need to buy.

Once you get you touch diamond, you will also want to be sure it comes with Rom1.93.401.2 or higher and if it does not then upgrade to this ROM or higher right away as there were a few nuisance bugs in the first ROM's. There are also a few additional tweaks that take this phone from a nice unit (Initial ROM), great unit (Latest ROM) to superb with a few additional tweaks.

So I visited the Xiangyang/Fuxing crossroad and all I found was a "modern electronic city" or the like. Inside, there were alot of small booths but no one sold mobile phones. The closest thing I found was a battery to HTC Touch D.

Is it that place and I'm totally blind, or am I totally blind and there's another phone shop nearby?

Cheers

PS. Should add that I know no chinese what so ever. I went around with picture of it
