| Post subject: Drugs Testing |
Hi, I have a delicate problem and I'm wondering if anyone can advise.
I'm hopefully changing job soon but have been told that I will be required to first have a hair follicle drugs test that apparently can detect drug use up to 3 months ago. I've never touched drugs, except I stupidly did one line of coke at a friend's party about two months ago, and this is the only time in my life I have ever taken it. Does anyone know if even this tiny amount taken two months before a hair test would show, and does anyone know where perhapsI could purchase a home test in Shanghai so I can test myself.

I googled and found this:
To really understand how long does cocaine stay in your system, consider the following facts
* Cocaine is expected to be present in the body for 72 hours since its intake
* Cocaine is expected to be detected in your urine for 1-3 days since its intake provided the intake is only once
* Habituated use of cocaine results in traces of cocaine being detected in urine for up to 12 weeks.
* Cocaine is said to be retained in your hair for a period of 3 months since its intake.
* There are also reports available that suggest the presence of cocaine for a time frame of 25 years since its intake.
I think this is for a habitual heavy user though. |

Is yes, then I highly doubt that one pokey line 2 months ago will come up in a drugs test. |

I could be mistaken, but I'm relatively sure that it's not illegal to ask either of those questions in a public forum. I don't even think it's illegal to try to go about completing certain tasks (such as passing drug tests or visuals exams) in such a way that one feels the chances of success will be greater as long it is within the bounds of the system itself (again could be mistaken). I find it amusing how many people get so worked up over the questions. Is it the questions themselves or the "illegal" activities that are the issue? I am in no way condoning breaking the law. But, I do find it completely appropriate to understand the details of the laws and work within those constraints to reach a desired outcome. Laws are rarely black and white (especially here in China from what I've read on this site). Knowing what is okay and not okay is just intelligent in my book. If I will give expats a bad name for thinking that, then so be it. |

Is there a way you can delay the test, say you go on a "holiday"? Try to take it a week after the "3 months". Or tell them you' re thinking about the position, you will get back to them in one week. You want to be sure this is right for you.
PS: If it is positive the first time, tell them you are sure it is a mistake, and try to take it again in a few weeks.
