Depends on your lifestyle. For a Chinese person it would be great. But can you eat crap in styrofoam boxes all day for 10 RMB per day?

Rofl underh20...

I couldn't live on it, but many locals live on much less. Don't know if many expats do though.

You would be watching your pennies I would have thought... good luck!

the living expense is rising, and 10 RMB will not cover. I think 20RMB could be more practical.

Depending on the type of job and how bad you want to be here.. just about any job for an expat 3000 would be way low unless you taking an intern position. If the job is interesting, you could take it.. but do they guarantee visa assistance? I would NOT sign for a year contract.. if you come here and take this to figure things out. you can do much better in a short time.Even english teachers in state colleges who get 3000 a month, also usually get room and board and a trip back at the end of their contract. Interns come here and get a bit of pocket money, but have their trip funded as part of their education experience. Bring some additional funds.

With all the freebies thrown in, your package is worth about 9k RMB. Not too bad for office work. Locals would get a lot less.

Luwan can be one of the most expensive areas in Puxi (Xintiandi, Huaihai....), but there are also lots of locals there, and they're living fine off your salary.

I don't quite understand..... Since all your living expenses are paid for.... what exactly do you want to know? How much massages are?

Aside from housing, luxury restaurants, and luxury shopping, all areas tend to have more or less similar costs-of-living....

As many have pointed out, all your basics are covered. Be sure to expect just that though - very basic. You can't expect to live lavishly on a part-time salary, but it is possible.
If you get strapped for cash, maybe you can get another part time job or something.

3 G RMB a month aint much for entertainment. You can go out to expat places once or twice a month and drink a few beers at lawsons on the off nights but you are not living the high life.

Street food is cheap but you will need a good supply of toilet paper. You say food is included, in what form? Expense account then you are sorted, anything else start reading forums about recycled oil.

3000 RMB? And you call that a job "opportunity"??? If that's what you think you are worth then go ahead. I get more for picking my nose.

3000 RMB? For an expat, just being a English teacher you can get paid about 8000 RMB a month in Wuxi, and the cost of living there is much lower. I could never imagine an expat could be paid so low.

Although with your level of English I think you would be lucky to get even 3000 RMB as an English teacher.

sorry, i made a mistake. i'm not an expat and i'm still improving my English. My point is that an expat shouldn't be paid so low. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

i'm not sure about that. but the cost of renting an apartment in Wuxi is much lower, almost half as much as here in Shanghai.

Well, all depends on what you have in mind. If you want to use this opportunity to be here and then after while have a chance to get another job, why not. For a long term I would not take it. Once more, I do not know about how much you make where you live now and how is the cost of living there. It is then hard for us to understand if the quality of the life you could get here would be better than the one you have currently.

You mentioned that you want to know what kind of life you could afford (nightlife, movie and so on). Here have a look at my normal average everyday expenses:
Food: BF: 30 RMB; Lunch: 60; Dinner: 60 => 150 RMB
Transportation: 30 RMB
Total: 180 RMB / day

Of course it is variable. If I take my bike (like most of the time), I save money. If I go to western restaurants it will cost me more. For week-ends, once more it all depends on your life style. If you go out, entrance fees for a club can be about 100RMB, 50RMB a drink, easy to burn 500 RMB...
Movie is not cheap, higher than 50 RMB if I remember well.

Now of course you can eat for 10RMB in the morning, take the bus for 1-2 RMB, have a lunch box for 10RMB and the same for dinner. In this case it will only cost you about 1000 RMB per month and leave you 2000 RMB for extras. I doubt that you could bear this on a long run...

maybe it would help us if we knew exactly what you were asking...

What Nationality are you?
Where are you moving here from?

It sounds as if all you will need is money for food, clothing, entertainment?

What is your lifestyle and expectation for these?

A night out in a "western bar"....drinks and dinner for 2. Way out of your league for 3,000rmb a month. A middle of the road western place will run 40rmb a beer, 60rmb a glass of wine, and 100rmb per dinner. 2 glasses of wine each and a main apiece and 500rmb is out the window.

A couple of jaozi and a couple of bottles of beer from Lawson's....60rmb.

Give us a gauge of your desired lifestyle and we might be able to be of more assistance

Most of you have not read the O.P. The 3000 RMB is pocket money, as everything else is paid for, therefore would be equivalent to 8-10,000/month. Quite doable for a start.
