| Post subject: Baby's right to stay in China... |
This question has probably been asked... but I can't seem to find the answer I want...
I'm from HK, holding HKID card with 3 stars and that hui xiang zheng card. Is there a place I need to go to register my baby at birth? I mean.. I don't know of a consulate/embassy of HK here... LOL |

Good question. I don't know about HKers. Maybe you can call the PSB and ask them. |

A friend of mine registered her baby here because he was born here (even though he was going to have a Dutch passport) and the place was on Tong Ren Lu right across from Malones (went for her to pick up the paperwork). If you can't find an answer, maybe they can tell you there. |

Even if the baby will have a foreign passport, you must register the baby. Registration does not mean the child is / will be Chinese. |

So registeration is not available at the hospital like in HK and Australia?
This is for the birth certificate right? |

In the hospital you do get a birth certificate. But you also must register the baby with the police because the baby also, as a foreigner, needs a visa. |

Try calling the Hong Kong commission in Shanghai on 6351 2233. They may know more formal details in regards to Hongkongers. Good luck with the new bub!

Thanks underh20. So presumably, I register my baby at the nearest police station? Actually, I've never registered myself at any police station since it just seems like I didn't have the need to do... i just enter with my card... it works like wonders that's why i'm hoping my baby can get the same card here too
Thanks so much for the number Adrienne. Will give them a ring tmr |

Not the nearest police station. It would be the Entry & Exit Administration of the PSB. Unless, of course, it's different for HKers, but I heard they need to register, too. |
