Post subject: Advice on purchasing a Car Seat

Our Chinese employee has a 2 month old baby. To my horror they do not have a car seat.

I would like to purchase one.....any advice on how much....brand ..anything would be appreciated.

Ideally it would be versatile and can accomodate the baby for some time.

Thanks for any input.

toys r us in superbrand mall have them, as do the baby shops up on the 6th (or is it 7th) floor there.

Not sure they would ever bother to use one though, even if you gave them one. Most Chinese people I see in cars don't seem to give a sh#t! They just hold baby in the front seat or let the kids jump around in the back. Adults don't even wear the seatbelts. I fight with taxi drivers all the time over the fact they lock the belts away behind the seat. They think I'm being ridiculous cos I insist on using a seatbelt when I have my baby (in a sling - it's the safest I can manage with no rear seatbelts).

It's just ignorance basically.

Hmmm. In Australia you were forbidden to take your new-born baby home unless you showed the Hospital lady that you had a HUGE velcro wrap inside the baby capsule.

I can absolutely assure you she walked out and personally checked the car, the baby bucket and the velcro. Very carefully. Then she gave the OK.

PM to jfpower.

Thanks, (jf) or here for other mothers. And fathers too.

It's our responsibility to guard children, the best way we can Smile

Z.

Chinese people do not like to put their baby in car seats. The babies are quite often carried. I wonder if your employee will even use it if you buy it for them. Beside that, in order for the car seat to function as a safety device, it has to be properly used according to the manufacturers' instructions; otherwise, it can be more harmful than not using one.

If you are looking at giving a baby present, the best would be to give money in a red package (hong bao).
