| Post subject: Mongolian Rally |
Next July i am taking part in the Mongolian Rally, driving from London to Ulaan Baatar in Mongolia. At the moment our route is through Europe to Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrygystan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia. However, we would like to take a "short-cut" through Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia in China. Do you know of any laws that stop foreign cars entering China? Maybe Shen can help?
Any help will be much appreciated! |

Don't kno anything about bringing cars in (though I suspect that would be difficult!) but you also need to have a Chinese driving licence before you can drive here - the Chinese don't recognise the international driving permit.
Good luck though - sounds like an amazing trip. |

When I was in Xinjiang this summer I met some people who had been driving their cars from Amsterdam to Beijing. They had managed to get their cars into China coming from the other direction. I guess that means that it is technically possible as long as you have the correct documentation.
Have a search for Amsterdam-Beijing rally and that might lead you to get some contact information on what documents they needed. |
