| Post subject: Emigrating soon...job prospects? |
Hi people,
Hopefully someone here can help me out. I will shortly be leaving my home country, New Zealand, and emigrating to Shanghai, China with my partner (who is Chinese).
I was wondering what the job prospects and approximate salaries are in the IT industry?
I have ten years experience in the industry. Half of those were spent working for Apple Computer as a salesperson, technician and account manager. The last five were spent at an independent secondary school working as network manager. My preferred area of employment is with the Apple platform, but I have experience with PCs aswell. Additionally, I have completed a Bachelor of Arts in History, TESOL and have several computer industry certifications. I've spent the last two years battling through Mandarin at university.
Any ideas? Are there any other qualifications I should obtain before coming to Shanghai?
Many thanks,
Jaz

Hi Jaz,
it will depend on what you are planning to do in shanghai, Looking for a job in shanghai or start your business in Shanghai. If looking for a job in shanghai, I recommend you contact some headhunters in shanghai to find the requirements of IT job in china. If you are looking for a teaching job, go ahead contact some international schools in shanghai directly. Chinese is not must do before you come to china. It will be nice if you can understand some chinese, but you will be OK if you do not learn any chinese because lots of people understand English in china, especially Shanghai. Hope this info can help you a little bit |
