Ah, forgot! Mainly they are friendly, having clean seats. They follow my route without "ohhh" comments and do not talk too much.

Thanks, chingiskhan. Actually I felt the O.P, was trying to start an "anti taxi" campaign, and in a very unbalanced way. Now the thread has become a lot more balanced. Anyone living here who can only see one side, will not have a very happy time.
likelittlebear: It's not so much YOUR spelling that sucks. It's your comprehension, and understanding.
Why pick on correct spelling, just to divert attention away from your own very weak arguments? Pathetic.
'O', and you refer to me as a "she". If you had read my posts, as you claim, you would know that is NOT the case. I should hit you with my handbag, if I had one.

11 years here, most taxidrivers very polite, never had major problem. Maybe OP has some problem he do not realizes, for example he stinks or look like angry crook or something. |

I will agree that there are crazy taxi drivers out there. My main problem is that they don't yield to pedestrians.

"Like Likelittlebear" is a parenthetical expression that modifies "expats." It just happens to be in between the subject and the verb.
It's annoying when one corrects someone's English as an argument, and even more annoying when that person is wrong. |

I've had only good experiences with taxis here until the other night when, for a journey I regularly take, the metre came in twice as high. He argued when we pointed this out, and when we asked for a receipt he refused before switching our receipt with a different one. I took his driver number and the number plate details... so where do i complain?
As for the rest of this thread, it's all a bit sad. 'Likelittlebear' is entitled to his opinion and, frankly, criticising taxis for driving fast isn't particularly unfair. If everyone wants to re-read from the top, Monalisalee does seem to wade in with a rather over the top response, with 'Get lost'. Seems like a prick nosed kind of thing to say in my opinion. |

For Dazhong can you order using English?
Anyways has anyone dared to use those taxi bike guys. Usually they will come to you from while you wait for a taxi and they will ask "Where you going?" I always refused them as they usually say a high price and they never look safe. |

People don't use them for their safety they do it for speed. You can get from the Bund to Jing An in about 10 minutes. |

Those taxi bikes are dangerous, they ride like they're posessed. You also need to know how much the fare will be because they will try to rip you off if at all possible.
My gf has been groped by one of the guys too, and I seem to remember others on here saying the same thing
Having said all that though, they're way faster than a taxi, and a lot of fun in a close-your-eyes-and-pray kind of way. |

Never taken one myself, but a mate of mine used to take them everywhere. He always arrived on time. They ask for high rates sometimes more than a taxi would cost but my mate only ever paid 5 kuai for trips within the downtown area. |

Singing ? All the way ? I'm imagining a falsetto/castrato Kunqu Opera entry from stage right, with lots of make up.
I *somewhat* remember a line from "The English Patient".
My Bedouin driver said nothing for 12 hours until he pointed out some smoke in the distance, and said one word :"fire". A perfect travelling companion.
That's my kind of cabbie. Apart from the "Qu Nar Li ?" after my initial "Ni Hao" and intended location, silence is golden. Of course, my Suzhou dialect chit-chat is extremely limited, and I couldn't be bothered chatting in Pu Tong Hua. MP3 is nice.
I've NEVER,EVER had a problem with Taxis in SH, in fact I find their work to be excellent, straightforward, innovative - every time. I once had a trip from downtown to Pudong Airport at 2 am. I suggested to the lady that I'd pay 160 kuai flat - and she suggested the meter.
She won, it was about 180 kuai, I didn't mind.
Again - sigh, give respect when you are respected. |

You shouldn't have accepted the other receipt, and insisted on the correct one. You can call the taxi company now and complain. They usually call back and apologise, but not sure whether it actually makes a difference? |

The Taxi-bikes aren't that bad if you're going a short distance. A 15 minute walk from the subway to home can be done in 3 for a total of 4 or 5 RMB. It's not that bad if it's such a short distance.
I've had horrible experiences here with taxis. I mean really, I take them about 3 or 4 times a week and it's at least once every 2 years that I get a bad cab! Way too often! I should complain more to make myself feel better!
By the way, is this an announcement? or an event? |

If it's a reputable taxi firm, you get your money back plus some extra.

For only 4 - 5 RMB, you'll get a good rub all over the taxi bikers, why not? If you enjoy the smell of the traffic fumes or the taxi biker for that matter, it's an added bonus. What a great deal! |

We didn't just accept the wrong receipt. We argued for 20 minutes and he just said he didn't have the receipt even though we know of course he did.
We dont know the company because we didnt take the receipt, so is there another authority, one who could identify by plate and drive number? |

If it was a legal taxi, and you remember the colour, then it should be relatively easy to find out which company it is, and call the number. However, I don't know whether you will have any luck without a receipt. |

The taxi rides scare the cr@p out of me...and I love to drive fast myself. I dont find them rude, generally, but every day seems like a near death experience with all the weaving in and out of traffice, jumping 4 lanes at a time. And the fact that you cant use the seat belts in the back as they have that cover over them is just plain ridiculous.
My only other problem is with the filth of every taxi I have been in, but I guess the hygiene issue stretches far beyond taxis. Every time I get out of a txi, I have to go to the bathroom to wash the marks off my suit trousers.
Just my 2 cents. |

Thanks for your understanding. I just dropped a line here to share my bad experience with others and it was all about our safety. Don't understand why Monalisalee started insulting me first and loves the singing from those drivers so much...all in all, if anyone takes taxi 2-3 times everyday and still hasn't encountered any bad experience, please share your success with me here. |

I thought I would capture this quote before llb corrects all the mistakes, even though by my reckoning that should take some time. |
