| Post subject: taxi in Shanghai |
I really have had enough with those taxi drivers in shanghai. I don't mind they smoking in the car, picking up phone calls, being angry and rude all the time even if I didn't say anything to them but I DO MIND those mother fuucckers drive deadly fast and refuse to slow down no matter how you complain.....
Personally I saw two accidents caused by crazy taxi drivers and not sure if you guys heard that the most famous chinese tenorist was badly burnt on his face in a taxi accident. He claimed a fine of RMB600000 but that taxi company refused to take this responsibility since they said they didn't have any money for that.
I found the link below where expats can complain to the Mayor of Shanghai directly:
http://www.shanghai.gov.cn/shanghai/node17256/node17976/node17979/inde x.html
Please take actions as I did if we really concern our safety and want to change this situation immediately |

On the other hand, I have yet to come across a rude taxi driver. My experiences have always been pleasant. On my last trip the driver even insisted on shutting off the meter when he misheard my instructions and drove for several blocks in the wrong direction. By all means complain about the bad drivers but let's not condemn them all because of a few who shouldn't be on the road. |

i have never had a problem with taxi drivers either. I find them all friendly and polite and I dont believe I have ever been taken for a ride here. Likewise, once when the driver got lost (more my fault than his), he reduced the fare. |

Yeah, agree. I think they, in general, are very good, work long hours for F all, and I never had a a problem in 4/1/2 years . The main problem the taxi drivers have is with expats, like "like little bear", who are new here. You are your own worst enemy. So get lost. I even had a taxi driver sing for the whole journey. I thought it was really neat. I wanted to give him a tip, but 'no way'!, would he accept it. You want fast taxi drivers, go to Dalian. |

The taxi drivers in Shanghai are quite nice--they're the one thing I rarely complain about. I'm betting passengers (foreigners included) are ruder than the drivers. I almost never find they drive too fast. My biggest problem is that they're going up the hill in the tunnel at 20 mph and refuse to downshift from 5th gear.
And correcting someone's subject-verb agreement? How lame. |

"Thanks" but not "tanks"...
if you really want to tell him how much you appreciate those drivers, then better say it in Chinese i suggest....
one more tip, you never put "s" after "experience".... |

1, you are very rude and no wonder you like those taxi drivers so much; 2, I had a look on your historical records and found so many mistakes 3; "experiences is more than one"...who taught you that? even though... you should say "are" but not "is"....4, I need education but certainly I will not choose a person can not speak decent english...5, you cannot even make a complete sentense in english but only some fictions...
go to EF and apply for the class of beginners...they will teach you basic tenses and spelling
moreover, if you do appreciate a taxi driver singing for you during your trip, i think the word RETARD is made for you |

Enough said. Not too many people agree, so quit getting mad. If you don't like it, walk or get a bike - I bet that's even more safe. Ha. I even take my one year old son in taxis and have only been worried a couple of times. The only thing I'd complain about, if I were to complain, would be that the seat belts aren't available....
Even after the thing says, "Hello passenger, welcome to take my taxi. Please (something something) your safety belts".
That part always seems to make me laugh. |

Wow likelittlebear, I think you need to attend anger management!
I agree some of the taxi drivers are just plain crazy, and I have actually asked a couple to stop so I could get out and find another one. However, the majority are acceptable in my opinion. Seatbelts would of course be a huge step forward in safety.
My question to you is why have you had to sink to insults and picking holes in someone's english ability just because they don't agree with you? I would suggest that in future, you should actually make sure your own english is 100% before criticising others. Sentence not sentense, and experiences is certainly a word!! |

Credit, where credit is deserved.
I personally find the taxi guys in shanghai to be velly velly nice. In my ~3 years spent in this town, i have had no (or not worth mentioning small, kind) bad experiences with them once i am in their cab (refusing to take me as a passenger is another thing though).
I once took a cab whose driver was in a particularly foul mood for whatever reason and i had to wait a few seconds everytime i asked him something, for he was grumbling at this and that all throughout the ride, and actually tried to calm himself before facing me and answering! Won't forget the lesson in politeness HE taught me. |

Taxis are fine here considering how chaotic the roads are. Although i would like to see them upgrade their Santanas to something more safer. I feel like if the taxi ever crashes I'm a goner. I heard some places in CHina are upgrading those Santanas into Passats!
There are always some taxi drivers that are bad. My experience rate with bad taxis are like 1/7. About one in every seven taxis is bad. I especially hate it when i had a hard time to get a taxi and they kick me out because the place i wanted to go was heading the other direction. Damn can't they just go further and U-turn, doesn't that mean more money on the meter which is suppose to be good for them?!
And yes most taxi drivers will give a frustrated look if you don't give 2 road names. |

well, since you asked me then I had to answer it in order to be polite. Anyhow, I am not here to argue with a woman who appreciates taxi drivers singing for her. If you are happy with the taxi service in Shanghai, good for you! I wish I could have more like you had; if you have to take taxi 3-4 times everyday as I do and have encoutered a lot, then we have something to share in common...just want to improve the safety level, nothing wrong with that |

90% of the taxi rides I have taken have been Ok - gets me to where I want to go by the most direct route.. 8% have been great.. taxi driver is friendly and goes out of his way to do a good job. 2% have been irritating. mostly because the driver has no idea of how to get around SHanghai. Only in 2 or 3 instances in the last 9 years have then extremely bad - trying to take me for a ride - at which point I just stop and get out. There are fake taxi's also

You're a complete moron. "Expats (like likelittlebear) who ARE new here" is correct because "expats" is plural. If your English is poor that's okay but don't go correctly others who have better language skills than yourself. |

Actually i don't think taxis are to be complained at. I think trying to get taxis during rush hour can be a total nightmare. There are rarely any taxi line ups so grabbing a taxi is trying to shove your way to the front. Nobody cares if you were there 1st. They will stand in front of you like they don't give a rats ass!
Sometimes i can't even get a taxi at all!
After getting a taxi thought rush hour hell. Seems like sitting in a taxi feels like heaven no matter how bad the driver is.
I was told buses are the best thing to use during rush hour, but i haven't learnt which bus goes where. Eventually I'll get the buses. |

try "keeping" the same taxi driver. Especially when you're fare is a little higher i find that taxi drivers are well happy to pick you up from the office in the evening, and from home in the mornings. |

Taxis are fine, it's the queuing for them that drives me crazy- has anyone ever been in the queue at Nanjing railway station? I nearly got into a fist fight there, and once at Carrefour when it was raining I had a complete eppie when people kept stealing cabs and threw my shopping everywhere. |

I decided to avoid all random taxis. I use Dazhong Taxi (ph:96822) every morning and in the evening also. RMB4 extra for one order.
