Post subject: Satellite TV

My Satellite TV stopped working a long while back, I'm now planning to get it fixed. I have a 'Bolt' box with a Sun4' digital smart card. I think the channels come from Taiwan.... Does anyone know if this service still works and if so where I can get a new card? Another question, and maybe wishful thinking... is there any satellite service that covers UK tv programming?
Thanks in advance

UK - No, as there is no signal for other side of the planet here.

Suggest buy a DM500, and use that as a decoder, its quite nice and hackable. Average prices for that are about 500rmb.

The dish etc should still be fine.

Working HKC keys are easily available on the net. I did mine yesterday.

If this is all gobbledygook, get on of the flyers from your mailbox, and use that.

I prefer doing things myself though. If you also have internet near your TV, you can use a cardsharing service - these are usually around 100rmb a year, and will decode pretty much any service.

This should be in the satellite forum though.

Yes there are two satellites that have UK TV Content programming available in Asia, one of which carries every live EPL game.

thanks for replies... Satellite TV that's good news re UK TV... could you tell me which service provides this and is this available through the internet connection option? I have a dish on the side of my house, but the signal always sucks - I think it's because I got another high rise directly in front which is blocking the reception. Many thanks.

There are two ways to get satellite TV. One is by using dishes and a receiver. The other is by MPEG4 streaming. High rises blocking receptiopn are a problem yes.

Drop me an email jim@taiwansatellite.tv or contact me on msn jimedstein@hotmail.com or skype blackcrusader.

Hi computersolutions, could you tell me where you found the 'cardsharing' service for 100RMB/yr? I got ADSL at home and can plug the PC to my TV, seems a good deal at that price. Many thanks for your help.

Google the chinese satellite forums.
You'll need to read chinese.

eg
http://www.tstvro.com/viewthread.php?tid=1547

You'll still need a satellite dish, and an appropriate decoder - the DM500 is awesome (and cheap at 500rmb+-)

Caveat -
This is all illegal here. Much like buying dvd's is illegal, So be suitably warned.

You will not get the services you want for RMB100 a year. If it sounds to good to be true then it is. SKy in the UK is 42 pounds a month.

Some packages in Asia cost over US$80 per month. For all the content you want you will need a 1.8m and a 2.4m dish hanging off your balcony.

Thats probably not going to happen as well. The HK package Computer Solutions http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/hkc.html Hacks into does not have the content you are after. Well not from the email you sent me at least.

Haven't tried them myself, but I know people using them, and they work quite well.

Basically they have keys for all these satellites:76.5Ku / 88Ku台中华民公/ 110.5(134)Ku CBTV国内/ 122Ku 天浪/ 138Ku 数码-艺华-HKC/ 138C世华/ 146Ku梦幻/ 146Ku华人(包括3.0)/6B--中数传媒CCTV

(on the link I gave you)

You'd need different dishes to get all of those though.
I usually stick to channels I like. As SatelliteTV says, Lyngsat is an excellent resource for that.

Lawrence.

76.5 KU and 88 KU are Taiwan channels.... in Taiwanese and Mandarin only with no English language channel content.

CBTV has 14 English channels , not a lot to choose from but maybe a nice basic package. http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/cbsat.html

HK satelllite has even less English channels
http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/hkc.html

Dream TV is probably the best satellite with 30 English channels.
