I'm not bothered by the election coverage. However, "yanks," "mate," and "the states" do bother Americans, the first 2 not because we're insulted but rather because it's annoying. We also never ever say "firstly." Never. Just say "dude," "the US," and "first." Really, try it. It's not that hard. |

I lover America! Seriously, Rocky IV is one of my fav's because:
1) Ivan Drago was a 'roided-up meanie. What a villian!
2) For the heartstrings angle of Drago killing Apollo Creed. Poor Apollo.
And James Brown sings in it too. I mean, its all class.
That's why I love america. |

Sorry, to disagree, but why would i want to call anyone 'Dude' i am not some 16 year old degenerate skater boy. I am English, my language is Queens english and although i enjoy some American TV shows i dont find the need or desire to start morphing into character and going around saying Jeez, y'all, ass wipe, hayseed, gronk, limpdick etc. Nor do i pimp my ride or smack up ma bitch.
So suggest you stick to your bastardised language of the streets and as Firstly is real word in the Oxford dictionary i will continue to use where appropriate.

Fantastic idea! Just like the state of Georgia did during last summer's drought. I believe it was the Governor who led the prayer.

I thought "Ugly American" was referring to an inner ugliness?

LifeMage....
While I appreciate and support your right to your opinion and expressing it here...
"Americans deserve every attack they receive....."
A very good friend of mine died in the twin towers...along with several other thousand innocents....leaving a wife and 2 children.
Fukc off....
Do an HC....complain about all the atrocities of Agent Orange and the other horrible things my country has done. Cite the Bay of Pigs, waterboarding, CIa involvement in SA, the Vietnam war.....
Tell me where you are from and I will dig into the history books and cite twice as many atrocities and human rights violations for your country as you can cite for mine....
But to coldly state that innocent people being slaughtered as an outcome of the actions of either of our governments is cold, heartless, insensitive, and completely devoid of any human compassion.
So for my friends wife and children...and my friend who I miss dearly, I say once again:
Fukc off! |

I was referring to U.S bashing....verbal abuse, you dimwit..."ugly americans".
Man...it's like 9/11 is America's "holocaust" or something. A horrific act of terror
that somehow becomes the justification to commit horrific acts of terror.
If you want to discuss 9/11 and the "War on Terrorism", I'll gladly oblige. |

Well then state that you twit!
I have zero problems with verbally abusing Americans.
I am one....and it is a national pastime. Or darn well should be.

Unfortunately....All countries at some point seemed to have had that "defining moment" that somehow in their minds justified the waging of war or the killing of innocents....insanity.
Sorry I jumped down your throat....just this evening had a bozo in the bar say that the US deserved 9/11. Maybe just a tad oversensitive from that little romp earlier
Now as for me being a dimwit....
First beers on me. We can debate it. |

Hey, don't speak for me. "Yank" doesn't bother me one bit. If people try to mean it as derogatory, I just find it humorous. I am a Yankee. I'm from New England and even people from other parts of the US call me Yank or Yankee. Which is fine with me. That's why the NY Yankees have that name. The Yankees name originated from sportswriters looking for synonyms for "U.S. citizens".
As for "mate", well this one is just funny every time I hear it. I know what it's supposed to mean in the context, but "mate" primarily means "spouse" or a member of a pair of animals that have had offspring. I don't "mate" with my friends, so I don't have "mates". I have one mate. If someone calls me "mate", well, they're overstating the nature of our relationship. It's called a "mating call" for a reason, I don't care where your English is from.
The States. I use this all the time. Not sure why you said this one. Calling the US "America" I think is misleading, because really, anyone from the US, Canada, Mexico and every country in South America is an "American". Do we call all Asians "Chinese"? Or all Europeans "French"? No, I think not. I always say "US" or "The States" to refer to the USA.
Next: "Firstly" is a word. Definitely fallen out of use in the States, but it is a recognized English word. And in fact, many people in the US say "First off", (short for first off the list) nowadays. But, it doesn't take away from "firstly" being an acceptable word. Not common in the US, but still used and has been for a long time.
Which brings me to another point, aimed directly at "Queen's English Speakers" bitching about "gotten". I say "gotten" (I would have gotten away with it!). Tough. It's a TRADITIONAL term in the freakin' English language that fell out of use in England, and around the time criminals were being shipped to Australia, so they don't say it either. But it is ENGLISH and not only that, even classical. Wait, where is this from?
"His father cannot rest until Hamlet has gotten revenge."
Oh yeah. Shakespeare. I guess his English was terrible.
It didn't fall out of use in the US. In fact, people from the US saying "gotten" is a more traditional form of English, dating back to Shakespeare, so STOP BITCHING ABOUT IT. In fact, I'm a huge fan of pointing out to people from the UK, Australia and NZ especially when they say "forgotten". Uh, same root there. It's ok with a "for" in front of it, but without it, holy crap bad grammar!!!!! |

Don't get me wrong p1at10...
I'm completely on the side of the American people. It's only that ya'll (for the most part) just don't seem to understand that your "enemy" is NOT a bunch of dirty Muslims in a cave somewhere, (not even those evil red commies), your REAL enemy is your own government and the banks/corporations that control it. |

From the sidelines comes this information. Our own government is the the real threat. Are you preaching to us or are you preaching to the high school kids? We know this. We know this has been a problem for more than a few years in our country. We know the circumstances of what our country does. And we know the lies that our country comes up with to justify what our country does. It's all bullfeces. I know it, most Americans know it, and I can only hope that at least a good chunk of voters know this. Even then, regardless if they do or not, how much change do you see happening in the future of the American presidency?
But are we the only ones lying to our population? Are we the only ones who's elections aren't already figured out for the "benefit of the populace"? I highly doubt that. |

"I can only hope that at least a good chunk of voters know this"
Democracy is an illusion, that's the point. Voters? Voting for tweedle-dee or tweedle-dum?
Your leaders are chosen for you and miraculously, somehow, you believe YOU have chosen them.
"But are we the only ones lying to our population?"
Why do you say "we"? As if it's the American people that is doing the lying?
It's the American people that are being lied to.
Of course it's not just the U.S! but the fact that the states has the largest military machine on the planet and has troops in 156 countries, makes it the number one threat to the world.
If it was Canada or Britain or France or Australia or China or any other country in the same position as the U.S....they would be the focus of attention....but it's not. It's the U.S.
So, I atleast, will continue until you (the american people) overthrow the parasitic system that controls your nation (and therefor the military/economic power that dictates (or attempts to dictate) world affairs.
Look at it this way...The American people are the ones that are going to either save the planet or sit in their easy-chairs and watch Oprah, while the world (and themselves) gets fucked.
You are the heroes and rest of the world needs you NOW! |

There are tons of smart Americans and it seems the ones that travel outside the country see the big picture quite clearly. I think every American on this site hates the current government and has intelligent views on world politics. What most of us non-Americans can't understand is how the country can have that huge ignorant population base at home (I'm thinking red-neck & Christian) that seems to stay so loyal to the republican party no matter how much the evidence points to their policies having been a complete catastrophe. I am sure anthropologists will figure it out one day. |
