Post subject: How far can one go working in an embassy?

I am being offered a position in an embassy as a support mechanism, administrative assistant to one of the Director, and I am wondering what kind of career advancement can I have, as compare to any MNC company?

Would be great if someone who has similar experience can share some insights?

Thanks in advance

If yu are locally employed there it depends on how long and how well you work. Some Embassy staff will have conditions like superannuation that maybe you arent offered locally in China.

But no matter how high you go as a local employee you will neverf out rank even the lowest of the Embasy's home staff. Thats becasue you will never get the clearances necessary.

You can probably go to third base if they have a disabled toilets, but I wouldn't recommend the full monty- CCTV cameras everywhere.

Well if you speak about North Korea embassy that position seems good. Position in that kind of countries is not the key. Key is that you work for government.

I don't know why everyone believes working for the embassy is a GREAT thing, because it's really not except if you're someone really high up..

working for a country is not something very very smart if you want to have a fast career advancement, working for a private company has probably many more benefits.

The good thing about working for an embassy is the work hours. Embassies close at like 3 pm lol! So lots of free time and earlier happy hours. And then you get weekends off, you get a crapload of vacations.

I guess it all depends on if your boss is middle-eastern, has a hairy back, smells like curry and wants to get into your pants... and of course, thinks that you are cute.
