I have no sympathy for the overpaid expats who complain about everything about China and then go hire a cheap woman for the night and spend the rest on expensive booze.
They'll realize how good the times where here when they go back to their countries to nothing and overpriced commodities. |

Don't worry, when all the overpaid expats will have left Shanghai, the shanghai governement will be short in its budget of about 15% (roughly the amount contributed by the taxes of the "overpaid" expats) and then the shanghainese will have to foot this extra bill.
This , on top of the new levy on gasoline coming as soon as january...
Chinese people too are going to taste a bitter pill

Something tells me Shanghai will become a ghost town in the next few months. |

And then there are a lot of us who enjoyed every minute in Shanghai and never "hired a cheap woman", well ok maybe spent some money on expensive booze. But still liked the city, the people, and the lifesyle. I ddn't have to go home to appreciate Shanghai and wish I would have been able to stay. Unfortunately times are tough and we have to face the fact that it is expensive to keep an expat in Shanghai. |

regarding the increase in phone calls from financial advisers - I use a fake first name with the food delivery services Sherpa & Mealbay (to know who is selling out my info) and the financial guy addressed me by that name, so it's one of them that did it, or a rogue employee. |

here's a question: If you had to leave Shanghai, but didn't want to return home, where would you go? I am thinking Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Manila, Jakarta, or even Hong Kong where the lovely imiigration authorities let us Brits stay for 6 months visa free to do touristy things. |

I had a friend stay and registered him with my number at the police... a few days later got a phone call from DeVeres finance on my number, but asking for him. |

Spot on... lot's of green faces on here. What makes them think that with the expats gone they will stand a better chance with the jobs and women? I see disappointment ahead... hahahaha |

^ Oversees Chinese as the ones who went their for grad schools and still speak chicken english? Well in this case they are local Chinese. They live and act and are more comfortable in China, the place they grew up.
For them, living and studying a few years overseas give them better opportunity for jobs compare to Chinese who do not study overseas.
Just curious, how do you define overseas Chinese? |

There were at least three full tables going at one point. Is there a positive relationship between recession and gambling activities? |

YES, there was a study made before...gambling, alcohol and womanizing has an upsurge during bad economic times. |

67,000 factories closed down since beginning of the year according to this NYT article.

Love the mental image of the Taiwanese chairman climbing the wall. Loafers, wrinkled suit and a suitcase full of money with the 100 RMB notes sticking out the side.
I would probably opt for a simple trash bag. Less is more. |

Looking at the amount of Euro trash, scumbags and East European hookers in Lounge 18 last weekend, our beloved city is still in a great shape. |
