The [sponsor] in the subject line means this is a paid ad right? I'm not sure it was a good investment! |

Courts aside then.....how about answering a very simple question.
In the "New" Dave's...Is the tailoring/sewing done by the same people as in the "Old" Dave's? |

Sadly many businesses who target the expatriate community do not have staff that understand the art of Public Relations. The advertisement itself is reaching its target nmarket but it seems they did not do any market research into what their reputation is in this market. Sadly, this business has a torrid history that has been continually passed down through the expat community, who hates to patronize businesses that have a dodgy history, especially ones that take the business away from those that make it successful in an attempt to make it on their own. Businesses like Senses where Mat was the frontman and their reaison d'etre, or Cottons where the landlord kicked her out of her original venue only to try and open their own, and a many other businesses where their namesake was kicked out probably because his/her name was never legally on the ownership papers. Nonetheless, it seems in this case, the question to the OP, who has already reacted defensively like many inexperienced Chinese folks, should be, who was Dave and id he still with your company? If no, then maybe you can share with this community why these rumours about your business are still out here after so many years? Here is a good chance to clear things up. |

The real Dave lives in Yuyuan Lu, not the Ritz. The guy's a legend. I had to write piece about him for Lounge. |

The Only, Original, Authentic Dave: No. 6, Lane 288 Wuyuan Lu. (Not Yuyuan Lu, and definitely not the p.o.s. ripoff at the Shanghai Centre promoted by OP. And btw, shame on Shanghai Centre for letting them continue to call themselves Dave's etc.)
Why doesn't Shanghai Expat just nuke the post every time someone just drops an advert into this forum? |

Again Fake vs Real, original vs un original Authentic vs unthentic ....fcuk !
There is no fake and no real Tailor.... a suit is a suit and a tailor is a tailor (that easy !! even my 1 neuron brain can figure it out).
p.s. (today the neuron is still on CNY holiday) |

Isn't there a difference between a "tailored" suit and one that is "custom made"? I heard from a pal at Saville Row that a "tailored" suit is one that starts off simply as a bit of cloth and then tailored thereafter (i.e. tailored from start to finish), whereas "custom made" suits start as a "bare basics" shell kind of suit, before it is cut/stitched/altered to fit you. Naturally, a tailored suit is much more expensive and takes much longer to complete. Be sure to know what you're getting, and that the "tailor" is telling you the truth!
The end product would probably make little or no difference to the average customer unless he or she was royalty. The price however, is always very different. |

Maybe you should post about things you actually know about. The reason why the original and non-original Daves comes up is because one stole the name and business from the other. |

Ok but how does this become a sponsored link? With the posts above, including yu's, its not exactly the most effective ad. |

Lovely Chinglish on the fake-Dave website.
http://www.bulity.com/
Dave's custom Tailoring, was garrisonned in the shanghai centre in the 20th century --Unit 105 carries on trade. Our company is a professional shop of suit in men's style, there is suit of amount of English traditional suit enriched that customizes professional suit worker of experience, and adopt the traditional hand made. We offer to customer: First-class brand suit surface fabric in Europe.Like :Zegna,Scabal,Dormeul,Hield and so on. More than 3000 kinds of design shirt surface fabric which a lot of countries , such as Britain , Italy , Egypt ,etc. produced. Offer customers to choose. Our company not merely tailors fit and exquisite suit , trousers , shirt for the man specially, serve for the women business wear at the same time .
I'm wearing one of my real Dave's suits today, actually fitted by Dave himself on my second (final) fitting. And to Shangstar's question above, a custom tailored suit is definitely starting off as just fabric because you choose the fabric yourself, the lining, the color thread for stitching, buttons, everything, then it's made to your measurements. I think the real Dave's is the best tailor in China, and when I want less expensive stuff I go to/near the fabric market. Those mid-level ripoffs aren't worth it. |
