Post subject: In Shanghai Jan 09 and MUST find Ayi

My husband, son I will be back in Shanghai around 29th December and need to find an Ayi ASAP. I will be starting employment on 5th Jan and my husband will be working too, which means we need to find a reliable Ayi to drop our 5 year old at school and also to pick him up in the afternoon - as neither of our work hours allow us to do it ourselves.

I am very unfamiliar with how the 'Ayi' system works - do they work part time? In other words, could it be possible to have one work in the morning for a few hours and then again in the afternoon for a few hours, or do you have to hire them full time?

We will be living in Pudong close the the International School our son will be attending.

Can anyone recommend an Ayi or a trustworthy and reliable agency I can contact? Also, I've heard that a Philipino Ayi is often better than a Chinese Ayi and I'm really confused...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dear Madam,

I am Sissy Wang and I`m running a agency specially for Ayi`s for foreigners.

To explain the system, only a few words in advance. It doesn`t matter so much the time. The rates for Ayi are not high and to employ her the whole day will not make much different. It even will be difficult to find a ayi that works few hours in the morning and few hours in the afternoon.

We have very good and trustwothy ayi`s and we would be glad to have you among our satisfied customers.

For more informations and to know more about please feel free to call me at any time.

Best Regards

A Good Ayi

We have a full time ayi and it is really nice because she is so familiar with our household needs that she can step in for any reason and fill in where needed. Having said that, I know of families that have part time ayis. I know some families who have someone to help out in the morning time and someone else to help out in the afternoons. I do think just hiring one full time is better because, as I stated before, she will become so perfectly suited to your family's needs after a time and it will make life very manageable. Also, part time ayis are less dedicated to your family and are more likely to jump ship at the first hint of a better deal. I will ask around and see if I know anyone looking right now. I think the best way to find an ayi is through personal referral rather than a service. The other great way to find an ayi is to look at the information boards in the community centers of the neighborhoods. They will often have a board where people who are leaving will post ads to help their ayi find work again after they leave China. I hope this helps.

Post subject: Sharing an Ayi in Pudong Tomson Golf Villa

We live in Pudong Tomson Golf Villa and we would like to share a part-time English speaking or Filipino Ayi to help with household chores and look after our children when our live-in nanny is on vacation or away for visa renewal. We have found a good candidate with great reference but she's looking for a full time job. If any one is interested in sharing an ayi (3 days a week per family), please let me know. Many thanks!

Hello is your ayi still available? we are interested to interview her. we are in the states now and will only be back on Jan 18. is she independent? i m expecting our first child in april. Need someone who is trustworthy and experienced and independent. our current filippino needs too much hand-holding. because of the temperature change, our woodfloor was making alot of snapping and cracking sounds - she said that gave her a nervous breakdown - she left the job while we are still in the states - leaving our dog alone at home. i do not want to hire someone who cannot be rational. we are in the french concession. Thank you!
