Post subject: Pet cremation

Our dog died unexpectedly last night Crying or Very sad
We can't reach our vet (Dr. Holder at the PAWS) during this special holiday time.
We need to take our dog to cremation. We want to bring the ashes back to the US later.
Anyone knows where a good vet clinic we can take our dog to do cremation?
We have another vet number that a friend gave to us but it is very far in Puxi.
We live in Pu Dong.
Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like we have to wait for several days until the cremation re-open after the holiday.
I miss my furry son.

Hi Soochowlady,

A good Canadian friend of mine here (200 m away) in Suzhou had his lovely dog poisoned by Optima dog food, aflatoxin 2 weeks ago.

He held his dog and felt her heart finally fail. It would have been terrible.

He, his (Chinese) wife and their local vet took the body of his beloved dog to the animal crematorium in Shanghai where she was cremated (individually) for a reasonable fee and they received a respectful urn holding her ashes.

Read some horror stories, over 1,000 RMB for 2 scruffy guys in some drizzly and frigid field out of Shanghai with a charcoal burner, swinging the dead pet into the burner like road kill, and a plastic bag of "stuff" to take home whilst smoking cheap cigarettes all the while.

Your pet needs some respect.

Here you are.

Please be polite when you email Ryan... you might open up heart wounds that are just starting to heal after his loss, and from his blog I emphasise with him.

You may want to contact someone at SCAA, they should know:
http://www.scaashanghai.org/

I found this article but it does not contain any contact information; perhaps someone here is familiar with South Mountain and can help:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2006-03/22/content_549206.htm

This website, http://www.entershanghai.info/expat-lifestyle/living-pets.php
lists this:

Pet Burial and Cremation

Pet cremation is handled by vets and pet clinics.
Addresses:

Collection of Dead Pets:

Shilong Road Station of the city's No. 3 Metro Line

Animal Grave Yard:

Lingkong Agricultural Park
Huazhou Road
Pudong New Area

Also, you may wish to contact a local vet near you.

I am sorry about your loss.

We just got back. And thank you guys for all the information.

I'll make a few phone calls tomorrow. We want to take the best care of our furry son's cremation. We pray we will meet good people to do this for us. Our dog was part of the family - our little poor boy. We brought him alone from the US a year ago. Whenever, I think of that we let him die here in Shanghai, I feel guilty and just want to hug my poor little boy again to say sorry that mommy and daddy love him so much. We miss him terribly. My poor baby. You are in God's hands now. Please smile on high to us when we miss you.

My heart goes out to you. I am an animal lover, have worked with and cared for them for about 50 years, and believe all animals have more love than humans will ever know.
So sorry for your loss.
Get another pet soon. It will help. They deserve you.
John.

Our dog was cremated yesterday at the city cremation facility for animals. He was able to be cremated individually. The urn holding his ashes now is resting in our home. We will bring him back to the US in due time. Our baby is really gone.
We learned from the gentleman who took us there that the place didn't have the small furnace for pets until year 2007. The facility is primarily for cremating contageous sick animals like cows, pigs, goats...In 2007, they finally saw the need of putting in a small furnace for cremating deceased small household pets.
Although this is not the perfect best way we would like to say the farewell to our furry boy (the place is a little bit mess), we know we have done the best way that is available for us at current moment on this land . We are so grateful.
We hope there will be better choises available for other pet owners in the furture on this land. We also hope a healthy pet culture and education (and necessary regulations) will eventually grow on this land when there is equal respect between men and men, and between men and animals.
Life is full of surprises. Mostly they are not what you want. And we tend to question everything when time is hard. We brought our furry boy with us when we moved here. He was a real tropper that he air travelled thousands of miles by himself and have survived very well from the required quarantine with no problem at all. We thought we will take this Shanghai adventure together. This is not the way we wanted him to end his life dying on a foreign land. Farewell, my poor stinker. We love you very much and we will see you again one day.

Thank you for all your comforting words and helpful information. I really appreciated. Until now, I finally know what heartbreak means.

Hope you all have a good day, a good week and a good year. And give your loved ones a hug and a kiss whenever you can.
