TANNING TIPS--

Fitness First in the basement of Plaza 66 in Nanjing Xi Lu is the best one so far. Do NOT try the Portman Ritz because there circa 1960 tanning bed is a waste of time and money (everyone can vouch for this if they've tried!). Also, I found out that the Kerry Center also in NJ Xi Lu has one, but you gotta be one of their members. Physical gym's got a new bed, so should be good, but you must be a member also.

Don't forget to exfoliate with a good loofa or scrub before you go into tan! Makes the tan last longer:)

Thanks for the info ivanl! Unhealthy as can be, but I still would like a little color this summer! Too impatient to get one the natural way!

You could always do the sunless tanning, they spray you with this tanning mist. It's pretty cool and not as damaging for your skin. I just saw on bronzebodies website that they offer that as well.

I just looked at that too - may try to book an appointment for this weekend! You have to really loofah before you do that . . . otherwise you wind up with some odd tan lines around your elbows!

Ivani - They told me the equipment would arrive soon too and that they would call when it did . . . no call yet . . . hope it gets there soon! Good to know that the beds are good . . . do they also sell UV tanning lotions there? Very important to use them . . . really helps you tan deeper and it stays longer.

Franky - I like to be tan because it gives me a different look than my normal pasty self! More healthy. Could say it is for fashion and if I meet a cute man, then so be it!

I'm sorry dyniquee - I haven't tried that bed (sounds strange) . . . I think it was Mandorla that posted that. The beds at Bronze Bodies are getting rave reviews (again, sounds strange). I am looking to join a new gym . . . Fitness First is on the top of my list and while I haven't used their beds (again with the strangeness) or seen them, I have heard from a few people that they are pretty good. Sorry that I can't offer any more info but if I ever manage to make it over there I will be sure to take a look.

Can tell you this though . . . the most important factor in a tanning bed is the bulbs. If you speak with the tanning bed people, you should inquire how often they change their bulbs. Even the oldest bed will produce better results with frequently changed bulbs than a newer bed with older bulbs. The intensity of the UVB (the rays that make you tan) lessens over time, so if the bulbs are old your results aren't too good.

Oh thanks anyway Magnolia - it was Mandorla's post ... getting a bit messy these days ... needs more sleep ..Razz ... especially for the info on bulbs ...

My personal experience with Fitness First is not bad I mean in terms of staff service equipments etc. PM me if you want to know more or a guide for a short tour there ...

Post subject: Don't quarrel. Just try.

I haven't tried the tanning bed in Fitness First, while my friend did. Tanning beds in Bronze Bodies are new and they are changed every 500 hours. Anyway, why not try different tanning beds coz different people with different skin type has different tanning needs.

Today is sunday, which is sun day!

Dyniquee & Magnolia-- It seems there are lots of options...If you want to choose a gym, fitness first may be the first choice. It has good equipments, good classes, "Pump and Spin" my favourite!! Personal Trainers are more professional....I have been a member there since April, and I am satisified.

About tanning....I know a lot of us are going to Bronzebodies just because is close to the gym, is convenient and most importantly, their beds are new and are doing a great job! They are clean, service is great, and price is very reasonable. They also will recommend you tanning oils that gets you that golden tan results. Well, I am now golden tanned and all my friends said I look great! Just don't be greedy on the tanning period, the big bed is strong, and you can overdo it if you stay too long for the first time. Smile

Oh, if you decided to check it out, better call them first, sometimes they do get very busy and need to wait.

I think I will go this afternoon for a session after gym. Cool

Check Bronze Bodies on Tong Ren road, across the street from Malones. You may also want to check Fitness First, on Nanjing Road, basement level of Plaza 66. Besides the accelorator don't forget to get a quality after-tan lotion to keep the skin moisturized and extend the life of your tan.

Generally a tan will last about two weeks, without maintenance (except the use of lotion to keep the skin moisturized). It will start to fade as skin is exfoliated through natural methods. Once a good base tan is established, it usually only requires one visit a week to the tanning bed to keep the same level of darkness. Eventually, most people will reach what is termed a "tanning plateau" at which they cannot become and more tan. Getting and staying this tan is not healthy and not adviseable.

On a related topic, I have noticed that the tanning adverts are calling tanning beds "riskless" because there are no UVB rays in the bulbs (or a very small percentage). While the risks are less than found by tanning in the sun because of the decreased percentage of damaging rays, please keep in mind that the UVA rays that are used in the beds are still harmful, although not as harmful.

The process of tanning requires the skin to be exposed to UVB rays in order to stimulate the production of melatonian. UVA rays will actually cause the pigment to turn tan. Both are needed to complete the process. Tanning lotions/accelerators are used with indoor beds in order to increase the production of melatonian, thereby causing the results to be seen faster.

Tans are subject to fashion trends in many parts of the world. Skin cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. You must weigh these risks; the pros and the cons, to make sure you are making an informed decision.

That being said . . . I used indoor tanning beds for years and years . . . and loved being tan!

Bronze Bodies Tanning and Proshop has the largest range of tanning oils, including CALIFORNIA TAN, MATAHARI SEXY TAN, plus, they have uv lotions and lip balms, and the moisturizer is free of charge to members.
