I tried it (the one near Times Square right?), to no avail. Urgh! Vegemite! haha
I know what you mean about high price too...Ribena being roughly 100 Yuan... |

Sadly real Marmite is nowhere to be found around here. You can get Vegemite or that turgid Sanitarium Marmite. I've got a pot I brought from home to keep me going. |

That store isn't the best stocked. There's a good one on Hongmei Lu or you could just call up City Shop and ask the delivery service if there's any to be found. If they have it, they'll get it to you. When I've needed things not at my local City Shop (Xujiahui), that's how I get them. |

M&S only sell their own brand food - they definitely won't have marmite.
City shop on Hongmei usually has it - thought I saw it in Pines too but couldn't swear by it |

Let us know if and when you find some. The only place I ever saw it was in the City shop in Xujiahui. City Shop do not always put things in, what we might think is, the obvious place. I think it may have been with the pasta sauces. |

OP: For f*&ks sake........ marmite is for fags!
It is hard to find in China because it is disgusting and no one wants to stock it.
Grow some balls and buy Vegemite! |

Pathetic. I'd take the fucking Pepsi challenge with that Aussie stuff any day of the week. Both are good but Vegemite is the much softer flavoured of the two.
You should also remember that Vegemite was only created to fill a gap when Marmite imports to Australia were distrupted in the 1920s. |

knew a bloke in zhongshang park called marmite, used to take a little tub of it on the subway and smear it on unsuspecting commuters...put me off the stuff for life...vegemite...well at least it pertains to vegetables...in a dark brown savoury sense, I saw some at gubei carrefore...next to the preserved pork hock dip |

F*** off! Vegemite is for fags that can't handle the taste of Marmite.
'It is hard to find in Chine because it is disgusting...' Have you seen some of the foul **** that the Chinese eat?
Oh and if you don't like Marmite, why waste your time to comment on a thread about it? I asked where i could find it, i didn't ask for an as**ole to tell me that he thinks Marmite is better. |

Whoa buddy, no need to start Chinese-bashing. Let's keep this on the merits of Marmite. Anyway, as an ignorant Yank, I've never had Marmite, Vegemite, Cenovis, or any of the other yeast-based brown spreads. I'm curious though. How would you all describe the taste of each? |

Very bitter and strong i guess...kinda tangy. Have you ever licked the bottom of a 9V battery when you were little? Tastes a little like that, without the sting (unless you eat it by the spoonful...). It's an acquired taste i think...unless your parents gave it to you when you were little. If you do ever taste it, make sure you don't taste it raw (without bread), with butter and use the yeast extract sparingly, i personally think it's better on toast than in a sandwich. I think some people just chuck it on and think nothing of it, thus ruining their view of it. |

Ok, I tried some of the UK Marmite (admit to being a bit nervous) and I thought it was pretty good. I had it on a cracker. I'll try some of the others mentioned here too. |
