Post subject: recommend some good movies

Rainy days, movie days, I have seen a few good ones recently. They are not new movies but new to me. Think they are pretty interesting.

1. Barcelona, USA
2. Somethings' gotta give, USA (Jack Nocoleson)
3. NOwhere in Africa, (Nirgendwo in Afika), Germany (English subtitle)

Big Fish ( by Tim Burton ) basically telling a story of relationship between father and son, also in my eyes, the relationship between the fiction and nonfiction in our lives.

Apart from Big Fish ( which I love very much now and already watched twice this week ) , I really enjoyed watching "Sweet Sixteen" , a tough story about some teens in Glasgow and the vicious circle they are in , 21grams ( with Sean Penn so much better than Mystic River ) , Mystic River ( even though not as good as 21grams a fine piece of movie ) , Swimming Pool ( nice french-english crime story ) ....

"Second Hand Lions" is great & if you haven't seen "Seabiscuit" - you should. We are waiting for the right mood to watch "The Passion of the Christ."

A tale of Two Sister is a movie much talked about these days ... Did not manage to get it here though... Have you seen , I think it is called The 19th stair , or something ... really scary stuff too... Bet you did not watch Ringu out of principles , but the american remake is also scary as hell....

>The Passion of the Christ
I have the DVD but hesitate to watch. Don't know why boughtit in the first place. Smile
Still remember how I feel after I watched Seven. Sad

Kill Bill is another bloody sick movie. I mean, really sick sick. Uma Thurman doesn't even know how to hold a sword. Fake fake. 大烂片! Whoever hasn't seen that one, you can have my DVD.

I just watched Kill Bill last night for the first time complete... When I watched it the first time I had to switch off when the comics started and thought , "what the hell" ... So yesterday I watched it and have to say : A very good Tarantino Film, can't wait to see the second one ...bit strange at times but in the right mood very good...

I won't be watching :The Passion Of The Christ because some idiot spoiled it for me...did you know that in the end Jesus gets crucified ? No more movies without happy end ( hope there's an alternate ending on the dvd once it's out ) this month ....

I think you are saying The Fox Stairs, which is another scary movie. But I like The tale of 2 sisters more. Very Happy Ringu? I think you are talking the Rings right? I've watched 2 series of that. Full of crap and I was not scared at all Razz Stephane king's movies are great, such as dream catcher. Very Happy

LF : Phew the ring really did not scare you ? Freaked the hell out of me... Another good scare was Jeepers Creepers for the first 40minutes then it got boring but the end made up for it ...
Baud: What this invasion movie about, never heard of it ?

Just watched Kill Nill.. yeah its a Tarantino movie. totally unvbelievable.. but if you can get in headspace of blood spatter being entertaining.. it does its job.

I like some the older colorful quirky ones.. Brazil.. Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Littel Big Man.. Those made an impression.

Recently the 24 series made a big impression.. easy to kill a weekend going through all 24 hours back to back.

Just getting ready to watch Big Fish.

Finally watched SeaBiscuit and was pleasantly surprised, definetly worth seeing.

Underworld - US/Brit horror movie about war between vampires and werewolves.

Mystic River - Clint Eastwood definetly makes better movies than he ever starred in. Tom Robbins, Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon are excellent.

Now for some regional culture. Grab a copy of Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor. One of the finest UK movies ever made, must have watched it at least 100 times. Great soundtrack.

Fiddler : If I tell you the subject you will never watch it since it sounds like a: “what the hell!!! Do I need to watch a damn sex, drug, witty, intellectually rock an’ roll movie. I know you will like it. By the way its other titles are: Barbarian Invasions, The (2003) (Canada: English title) Invasion of the Barbarians (2003) (International: English title)

Seen Killbill too, like especially the part of swordfighting Mr. Green and cutting of the limbs. When they turned to the anime part I was pleasantly suprised.

I liked Manga since highschool and seen many like: 3X3 eyes, Ghost in a shell, Akira, Ninja scroll, Fist of the North star, Gundam, Wicked city, City of doom, Vampire, Resident evil, Solid Snake tales Twisted Evil , Tank Police Laughing , You're under arrest, Hamtaro Mr. Green and of course Dragonball Z

Can't wait untill part two comes and three comes out, completely Tarantino movies. Also liked Reservoir dogs, Pulp fiction. They can bring those movies on all the time

hell yeah I need some distraction after all that "girlie" movies I recently watched... Have to look out for this one this weekend ...
When about sex and drugs , one I very much liked last year, was "Spun" ...absolutely fantastic actors, the one girl from American Beauty is in and has a fantastic part ! ... Last night I watched "Elephant" , the new Gus van Sant movie ... what a waste of time...

Now let’s go to more intellectually challenging movies. If you really want the grey part of your brain to be on fire………. don’t got see this one!!! Wink However if you want to see a great Asian, in your face, real action without much hidden cable flying actors (I do it all the time above my bed) in: your crotch tiger ---- that’s me---- hidden dragon ---- watch out when it comes to you!!!---- style. Then go and see Hong Bak. It’s a Thai movie with great action scenes. Just remember when you see it that there are not much special effects in that movie.

Damn it, we are in Asia why go and see a stupid movie with Quebecois speaking a damn fake French while we can see “a big dragon is by my crotch” type of film.

Sorry, I did not sleep so well this morning. It had to come out. next time I will become myself again

Smile he he ... think this one really is good for some distraction after the stuff I watched recently ...

Has anybody ever heard of that new chinese movie , about a young violin player that is getting sent to the big city by his father who saves up a lot of money so his son can attend this super important music college ? I read about it somewhere , can't remember where but it sounded really interesting...

I've never watched Crutch and Tiger because the trailer put me off it , but enjoyed Hero a lot ...

You know what, I liked Crush my Tiger and I liked Hero as well. Some Chinese would tell you that they are made exclusively for the intellectually challenged international market. However I found both entertaining. So if you have nothing to do at night other than read my posts, You can watch it, I give you my blessing. They spent enough time untangling the ropes after the show for you not to go and watch that film (don’t tell me I said your were intellectually challenged, I take no responsibility in that Smile .

How about the movies from the famous star: "zhou xin ci" who played in Shaolin Soccer, The King of Cooking, Justice my foot, Monkey King 1 & 2 , From Beijing with love (James Bond comedy) etc. etc.

Or the boxing/fighting movies from Andy lau (lui de hua if spelled correctly) they are entertaining. Otherwise some traditional Ghost storie or the beautiful movie with Michelle Yeoh "The Touch" is very entertaining.

When do have some time or rainy evenings, these can be entertaining too and Popcorn is only 2 yuan for a whole bag Very Happy

Monkey King 1&2 are good. Very touching and intellecture scripts but I don't know how westerners could understand that....Rolling Eyes
If you are looking for good Hong Kong movies, the best recent hit should be Infernal Affairs 1&2, also starring Liu Dehua Wink
I only heard a Chinese movie called He Ni Zai Yi Qi (To be With You) had the similar plot with wat you described, Fiddler, but that's not new.
I havent watched 24 hours yet though a lot of friends had recommended that to me. Even though I heard the movie channel is going to screen that starting April 23 but it probably turns out to be a shabby dubbed version. Fiddler can I borrow yours? Razz
