Like all your polls, the term gigo fits. If the choices are slanted (and every one I've looked at was) then the results are meaningless. Where was the choice for "higher quality moderation" ?
Face it, Michael, your people have no skills. You have what, 20 people ? And none of them with an ounce of people skills in their entire bodies. Probaly still cannot write his name in here, haven't tried in a while. Oooh, brave proponent of standing up to bullies you are.
Under is easy to handle. Most of the posters here figured him out long ago. But you couldn't. Now look at your visa forum. People without a clue are telling others total bullshit. There are a few threads in there right this moment with "information" so wrong, it's laughable. Start muzzling people who tell the truth and in a short time the forums will be absolutely useless. Oh, they'll be sweet and kind ... and boring and inaccurate and without value.
But the good part is that then you'd be right in line with the entire foreigner "community" in Shanghai. So that's a positive, I guess. Enjoy. |

Ok, after some reflection perhaps I have come across too much on the negative side so I'll try to balance it out. I do live here and there are many things that just are just WTF but as I said before you need to have enough good things to balance out the WTF things to cope and be ok. I'll try to focus more on posting the positive things as I gave the WTF things a good run already. |

Well "bastard" is seven asterisks, ******* = bastard and it fits.

Bastard is not really a bad word - more of a PG word. I can't think of any really bad words with seven letters - they are more four and six letters.
Oh hang on it must be "asshole", that's seven letters and gets the auto asterisks!
I'm just used to the eight letter version, "arsehole" which does not get asterisked.  |

The secret of living here in a relaxed way is to lower your expectation levels sufficiently. And find an escape in the weekends. Like I go sailing every weekend, just a bit west of shanghai on a lake. I forget every problem or trouble for two days straight. And this is so important to keep your sanity in this here zoo. |

I don't want this site to go all squishy and soft and cuddly - I like the lively debate and sometimes ferocious views; I just think we can do this without the "name calling" bit.
There is a big difference between saying " I don't agree - and I think you are a fool if you believe this" and "Shut-up, F***tard - by the way, I humped your mother".
Maybe just open a fight thread where the 6 or 8 guys that like to engage in this slagging can slug away at each other ad infinitum. The rest of us don't have to get involved and they will soon stop when they realise nobody is interested in their battles. |

I agree.
I have avoided calling anyone a name and suggested that I should on a few occasions where the poster was clearly needing it.
I had a "lively debates with sometimes ferocious views" with someone and later got no ill feelings from them or on my part on later posts.
One exception would be narci, she just went crazy with me and everyone. Definitely a few screws worked loose and a panel started making a din.
As Bonnie said "squishy and soft and cuddly" is not the answer and neither is the continued name calling.
