Post subject: Disappointment in China!

i hear all these good things about shanghai, because it is the best city in China.

well, sadly, the only good part of town is really small, the rest of the city is full of ancient buildings that are falling apart. everyone is so aggressive at selling you something.

ASAIN DRIVERS! THIS IS WHERE THEY GET THE STEROTYPE FROM! Almost get hit a few times....... WOW

Getting off the subway, i CANT GET OFF, PPL DONT LET YOU OFF! I **** swore at them bitches for blocking me.

the locals are so badly dressed... its funny, some girls try really hard... and they fail miserably.

the % of attractive girls is lower than 0.5%... i walked around for 8 hours each day for the past 3 days, i could count the number of attractive ones..... and it is a dense populated city.

WHY DOES EVERYONE LOOK AT ME! ALL THE GUYS ALL LOOK AT ME LIKE THEY WANT BEEF! HOLY ****, THEY STARE LIKE THEM BITCHES DO... i walk by, the would turn their head to keep staring at me... wtf...

i am asian btw... its not like i am white or black...

wtf are wrong with the chinese kids...

where can i find some normal people according to north american standards....

Very Happy

North America has standards? Is that what you call those blinders you got on?

I'm from the USA, and good riddance. What kind of moron moves to a foreign country and then complains because it's not like where he's from? If the locals stare at you it's because people who radiate hostility are frightening.

Hey jetx, got it to Shanghai I see.
I'm back as well. Yes, the ratio on the streets are so poor that it's a miracle to see a hot chick. If you do, then make your move straight away because you will probably never see her anymore.

Check out the nightlife, the hot chicks gather there. I've got a major jetlag, but will go scoop out town tonight!

I dont agree with the way the Op expressed his frustration above; however, sorry to hijack the thread, but I take the chance to reply against the sentence above in bold letters, because it is something I have on the stomach for quite a long time (heard both from chinese and foreigners).
My story today is about Taipei 20 years ago, but it is so close to what people live in Shanghai in the present time, that I think people will get my point.
I settled in Taipei because I had married a Taiwanese lady and wanted to have a normal family life, not always between 3 continents and between planes (we had lived and married in USA, before living in France and finally setting in Taipei).
Not long ago after final move to Taipei, my ex-wife started to complain that I was often annoyed or angered by the Taiwanese way of driving, by the sidewalks so full of motorcycles that my baby had to walk in the middle of the road, by the taxis drivers spewing bloody betel nut saliva through their taxi windows,...etc..
One day, she exploded and said: " Now, you are in Taiwan, so live like a Taiwanese"
I told her:" If you think I am going to be even 50% Chinese some day, you got it all wrong..."

Making a long story short, finally, my ex-wife now lives in Texas, because she hates Taiwan, and me, I still live 50% of my time in Taipei, the other half in Shanghai.
I still hate the way it is, both in Taipei and in Shanghai, and I will probably do so until my last breath.

So what??

In a word, go native and do as the locals do. Is going practical that hard for you? Save your time from being pissed off with the bad and ugly of local people, maybe there been chances and lucks around you. Life is short, don't waste it bitching and whining. You sure you can make your stay in China worthwhile or not?

OP sounds like someone who has never lived in a foreign country before. He actually very lucky, I can think of a lot worse places for him/her to be.

Learn to cope OP, you will gain a lot of personal development.

yo man, i totally agree with you, i think you all got it wrong, i am not liking this city and i will never do, but i am adepting. there is a big difference between both. my bitch ass owner for the house wont even let me wash my cloth in the washer, shes like use your hand, TYPICAL **** SHANGHNESE BITCH.

SHE UNPLUGS MY INTERNET EVERY **** DAY! how much electricity can you save from unplugging a **** modem.

i just want to share you guys my point of view here.

i went out to like 10 clubs and lounges, 9 of them were empty. then settled in one, i dont know what it is called. but pretty cool place. met some friends there, met a white girl who speaks chinese. but i dislike the majority of people going out in these places, they are much older than me by 7 years at least.

where is a good place to go with a lot of younger girls?

bar or club.

thanks

^just remember it's all about balance. Some things are worse, some things are better. Focus on making a new balance, not on creating your old balance (which is impossible).

Chinese or the people their living in China the standard is not based on your need or your demand, so you can't judge it right or not just by your arrogant your own lifestyle or your taste on it, you understand ?

Post subject: Re: Disappointment in China!

Find american standards in China??? are you coming to the wrong country?

Funny to hear people complaining about countries they chose to visit or stay.... Shanghai and the Whole China will never change to American Standards, not in a million years. You are the one to either adept or leave...

maybe you will sleep with a badly dressed Shanghai girl....who knows... Rolling Eyes [/quote]

Actually a lot of expats will complain about Shanghai. I don't see as much complains in Kuala Lumper, Sinapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. Yes, these are International cities. But Shanghai also claims to be one too. So go ahead and complain until Shanghai actually gets some International Standards! Otherwise better change Shanghai to a non-international city just to make sure there are less disappointed comers Very Happy.

Complaints that are essentially "Its not like home!!!" don't seem very useful in my books. Hey Dorothy You're Not in Kansas Anymore.
