The new owner is a really sweet guy. I'm actually going there tonight for dinner, keen to try out more of their food!

Its convenient for where i live, always empty in there, enjoy the melon and parma ham starter and the soups, pizza is fine too. Some of the pasta dishes are hit n miss ie the Lasagna is too watery with not enough beef.

Service is good and the staff are friendly, Half a Guinness costs 30 RMB and i beleive it stays open til 2.am, and it won't break the bank

3 out of 5 stars

Lange is fantastic. I did the cooking class with missbeverly and we had a great time. We also ate there last night. The food is nice, especially the pizzas, and the alcohol is chheeeaaap. It's a great little place with an excellent manager - Shawn and great service. Cosy too.

Marakanis - I met the new owner when we did the cooking class - nice guy.

There is going to be a Christmas Eve Party there on the 24th - you should check it out. But it is getting booked out fast, and when I called them about it tonight, they told me I should make a booking by tomorrow.

New owner is Paul, yes? Cause last I heard there was some ugliness going on where the previous owner was trying to steal money from him and... Well, no idea what's up now.

BTW, anytime you gals go to Lange, let me know. I'll join in for a drink there or at Kaiba. =)

Hear hear!

I especially like their "lange special" pizza.. it's the best one IMHO. The staff there are all brilliant and really attentive, and mostly I like the place because of the great prices for Western food.

Will be at their Christmas Eve Party, with bells on Smile Make sure you're there
Marakanis!

Nah, never been there. And nothing tells me it's worth going. Rather eat home in this country. At least I know what I am getting.

ok, had take away pizza from there tonight. 58 rmb, Pepperoni. Supposedly, as per the menu it was covered in pepperoni. I somehow don't think about 9 pieces is "covered".

for 58 kuai though it's pretty good. More pepperoni, as per the menu, would have made it a sensational pizza.

The other thing that was a bit of a turn off, was the 3 "homies" sitting in the corner gaming on their laptops in between serving customers.

In that case I will definitely check it out. You have convinced me. Smile

Forgot that they get bonus points for wrapping the pizza box in foil to stop it getting cold on my walk home. Good idea guys.

Thermodynamically wise.....bad idea.

Although it creates an additional airspace around the box, which in theory should be good....the foil is a very efficient conductor. Which is bad.

Would be better served to wrap in in old newspapers or brown craft paper.

Kudo's for the effort though....

Really?

Used to buy wax paper, parchment paper, and kraft paper at various times in Metro, Pines, City, or Carrefours..

More bad news..that pepperoni wasn't really pepperoni..it's some kind of dry sausage they make in Harbin

Pizza from Lange tonight. NASTY. Seems all the previous owners and managers have gone. The hotel has taken it back over. Seriously, Pizza used to be good, tonight was just plain bad. The "pepperoni" on the pepperoni pizza tasted like horse (not that i've ever had one....backed a few, but never eaten one).

This place, 3 weeks away from being tits up completely.

Wow, wtf... I'll see if I can find out what's up. Last i heard the previous owner and the new owner were having a tiff. Old owner saw the potential and decided to dick with the new guy.

Okay...

So, you remember when all their food was good? That's because the new owner hired a good chef and that chef had some good staff he brought on board. He was a bit pricey, but (as we all saw) well worth it. Apparently the new owner and the old owner/partner had a disagreement about the new chef. While the would-be new owner was away, the old owner/partner fired the head chef.

The head chef took the good staff with him.

The only chef left is the one who makes noodles for the hotel staff next door.

So the new owner gets back and is like wtf... The old owner/partner threatens to get the mafia on him and says he'll never get his money back. But that doesn't really work, so new owner demands his money back and dissolves the contract.

The new owner has been screwed over and they're slowly repaying him... but he'll likely never get back all his money.

Meanwhile, the head chef went to... Demarco I think? So I'm going to go there and see what's up.

This all happened about a month back btw.

Moral of the story, never try to go into business with a Shanghainese. Either buy them out completely so they have no say, or run in the other direciton kicking and screaming, because they will destroy your business before you can see a dime and try to take your money to boot. =P

The funny part is, this happens time after time after time after time after time but if you say anything you're just a "jaded bitter cynical old hater" and of course this will never ever happen to me ! because I'm SPECIAL !!

Sheee-it. Another one bites the dust.

Sorry. Twenty years ago this was acceptable. These days, if you fall for this crap you deserve what you get.

Well, here's the thing. You would think by this point that the Chinese would realize that they're shooting themselves in the foot. You can't just take over a business while it's doing well, make sweeping cheap changes and think you're going to come out on top.

Every time a Chinese person screws over a foreigner trying to do business with them, that business ends up going to hell in a handbasket within a month or two. That's not good business.

When are the local business people going to learn that this level of greed is ass-rapingly bad for their bottom line?

So who are the "old owners" and "new owners". To me it looked like this "new owner" was also a local guy.

Anyway, i've never seen many customers in there. Food was pretty good, but never going back now, it was seriously nasty last night.
