You'll need to bring medication of any kind with you. Even headache tablets.

Why's that, maxie .. ? Perfectly good Panadol available here, for next to nothing .. Ibuprofen as well .. at any of the myriad of pharmacies.

Hi Wakko,

No, I didn't go back..friends came to visit us instead...

I live near Nanjing West...cabs are available everywhere until peak hours and rainy days!

Before I left, Adam already had a proper carpark (for quite a while) but parking is still not very ideal there la...

What kind of chilli? canget quite a bit of stuff here right?

God, what I wouldn't give for an affordable chai latte...currently running at 25-28 RMB at Coffee Bean, with it being damn well impossible to get at Starbucks here.

Also, any deodorant which doesn't have a vinegary aftersmell would be fab. Currently on Body Shop deodorant at the mo, but when that runs out I'm going to smell like wine that's gone off.

The grocery store (next to the StarBuck) at the Portman (RitzCarlton) has almost everything you are looking for - they even have a deli. The price is a bit high because they cater to foreigners. The only thing I was not able to find is those large Costco (or Bounty) kitchen towels.

Post subject: coffee, beer and vegemite

hello all

i hear you on the clothes sizes. I'm around 6'2 which is probably only a little above average where i'm from but have seen many locals as tall or taller. Where do they buy clothes? Even gloves for the winter!

More importantly, can anyone help (preferably shops on the west side of the river):

1. Can I get vegemite anywhere other than Portman Ritz...

2. Cooper's ales (pale and stout)?

3. A recommended shop(s) for quality coffee beans. My new christmas pressies (plunger & grinder) are gathering dust rapidly.

These answers may be in this forum but toooo many to read.

Eternally grateful for any advice.
Wammo.

I do, and need to find some sheets. Does anyone know where to buy some? Didn't see any at Gubei Carrefour.

Very interesting thread....will be coming to Shanghai for 2 years beginning this fall and I can see where the relocation allowance is going to go; Boxes of Cliff Bars, Starbucks Coffee, Deodorant, a bread making machine, ingredients, etc....etc... Wow..and I thought living in the Middle East was tuff. On the good news side my job takes me back to the states every 3 months. Empty suitcase going.....over the limit coming back!!

I actually bought some dryer sheets at Gubei Carrefour this week. They are ALL brand and are in an odd place - a display bin in the front of the toiletries section. It's a whole bin full of laundry type items with descriptions written in English - one says that the packet is for cleaning your washing machine. Can't remember the price but it was more reasonable than the ones at City or Pines.
