Post subject: Satellite from HBOCN lost channels

I got a satellite service from HBOCN in February. A couple of days ago I lost several stations of importance to me. Now they say I need to "upgrade" and pay more than I did originally to get these channels back. Shocked

They have a users forum and I see that this happens from time to time.

WTF?

What satellite are you watching?

As far as I know, only 134E has HBO at the moment.
146E provider DreamTV dropped it from their package, and the other providers on the same satellite never carried it.
138E doesn't have anyone carrying it.

Dream TV (pirate) seems to have dropped a few more channels recently. T&L, History, Animal Planet, TCM, Nat Geo, BBC World, CNBC and maybe more...........WTF is going on now?

their website is www.hbocn.com

Try reading all the other satellite threads. Dream is moving all the channels to the new encryption systems to stop piracy. So all those with genuine decoders are not affected. All the pirate boxes lose their free content.

All these channels are still working on genuine subscripiton based decoders.

Next year HK Satellite does the same thing.

DSTV Supersports to follow later on. Thai satellite and Telkomvisions are already pairing cards to decoders to prevent piracy as well. DSTV have started doing this too.

IT's not like Dream TV have not made announcements on the channels about piracy. Some people I know have been paying 3000rmb for pirate Dream TV systems when a genuine system costs about the same and doesnt lose the channels.

Dream is on 146E
There are a few other providers on that satellite also.

Note that Dream, and DreamBox are two entirely separate things.
A DreamBox is a decoder by a german company (although there are plenty of chinese clones out there). The usual DM500 decoders are around RMB500 each.

Typical pricing for most satellites installed should be in the 1500rmb or less range, with a year card sharing service.

If you want a legitimate service (ie, a real card), then you'll be paying more. SatelliteTV will have pricing on that.

Upsides to card sharing - its cheap, usually 100rmb a year or so.
Downsides - some channels can't be decoded, and you need an internet connection for card file updates. You can do this manually though if you are technically inclined.

Or you can use a cloned card. Those are usually not very good though, as you need to swap cards out a few times a year, so for ease of use, card sharing is better.

I recently bought an HD decoder so I can get some of the HD channels out there. So far I'm happy with my choice of DM800. It cost me about 1800rmb.

Rough pricing for equipment assuming you have angles for the satellites is something like this:

LNB - 30rmb (need one pointed at each satellite you want to watch).
Dish - 2-300rmb (need one of those! - can have multiple satellites viewable using one dish, as long as they are reasonably close to each other).
Decoder - RMB500 or so. Recommend DM500 or similar. The Bolt XP boxes are cheap crap.
Installation - typically a few hundred RMB. Its illegal to install dishes in most residences in Shanghai, so don't begrudge the installers a few hundred profit over and above all the above. They can face jail for installing...

A decoder with 3 satellite KU LNB's installed on one dish - eg 134E, 138E, and 146E will get you HBO, Super Sports, movie channels etc.

If you want South African channels, you'll need to get a large dish, as thats on C band - that will need a different C Band LNB also. Pricing on that would be more (but similar to the above).

If you are paying more than that, and you aren't using a legitimate subscription, then you are getting gouged.

Note that satellite providers aren't ecstatic about people watching for free, so are moving to more complicated encryption mechanisms like Nagra3. So over time less channels will be available, this has been gradually happening over the last few years. Worst case scenario is that you have to buy a real subscription and put that card in the decoder. As the DreamBoxes can use Serial port decoders, they're pretty much compatible with all the cards out there, including DreamPhilippines upcoming Nagra3 cards.

As for the people complaining about losing satellite channels etc, stop being hypocrites.
Dream Philippines receives zero income from you, and they are dropping channels because they haven't been paying their upstream providers for lack of money. If people in Philippines were paying for satellite, they'd probably still have them!
As it is, Dream is on a slow spiral of death until they sort that out.

If you need contacts for someone to install, then can PM me.

Dreamboxes cannot read the Dream TV NAGRA3 cards so they won't open the channels on Dream TV.

They are not upcoming cards they have been on the market now for 15 months.

Will this HD Decoder work in Shanghai? I would love to get HD channels. What channels come in HD?

DM boxes are mainly used for piracy and do not come with pay cards.

Okay, my Dream satellite package is included in my rent. I don't think my landlord is savvy enough (or stupid enough) to have installed a pirate system. My decoder box looks legit - card and all. WTF?

I find it hard to believe that any landlord would provide anything other than a pirated system.

Lots of cloned stuff in China looks legit an all.

Dream TV decoders are called CRYSTAL BOXES and the cards for Ben Sports or Dream TV are pictured below. If you do not have these ( except the old Dream TV blue / purple card then you have a pirate system.

The pirate companies have been trying to hack the new cards since last June when Australia Network went to the new encryption system.

So you can choose to wait and try pirated systems or buy a legitimate decoder and pay card.

I do not belive that anyone is going to risk buying a pirated system for 10rmb less than a real one since the pirated systems often go down.

HBOCN emailed me a year ago asking if I could help him crack the new Nagra3 cards for card sharing systems.

The previuous NAGRA1 was not hacked by the Chinese first. It was done overseas and then the clone cards with copying techniques were shown to the Chinese who just re-cloned hacks.

Hi Mr SatTV man...
This could be a good situation for you now. Since many people may now be forced (or seriously consider) to switch to a "genuine" system you provide, what will you offer now???
The same price as the past 6mths, or increase it, or lower it in order to take advantage?

Please give us a list right here - your various packages and prices - or your website that has that info that we can go to.

Thanks.

I stream to many countries and all clients pay the same prices. I do not set subscription costs the providers do. You can also view their websites to see what the package costs are.

www.taiwansatellite.tv click on MPEG4 streaming link all the details are in there.

If you want genuine Dream TV decoders email jim@philsatcorp.com

Price is RMB3050 delivered to your home with 12 months subscription.

If I knew that you also sell Dream TV decoders for RMB3,050 for 12 months subscription, I would go for that and not the streaming we just recently subscribed from you for USD 1,430. One extra laptop became the "box" for streaming. Good thing we never use it for anything. Otherwise what a hassle to buy new laptop for that purpose.

I have always offered genuine Dream TV decoders.

However as there are on Dream TV no sport channels or the 15 movie channels and 20 sports or the 15 educational channels 6 discovery 3 nat geo 3 explore 2 history reality TV etc 15 new channels etc.

Dream TV does not have the content you needed to have. The new encryption change did not bring back the channels removed from Dream TV. It just stopped the pirated boxes from watching.

You bought our system as it has the best content available, and is not pirated. You could not install the large 1.8m and 3m dishes necessary for these services. WHat most of our customers purchase for is the news movies and sports we have. More than any other provider on a single system. Most of mu customers just buy a small tower computer for about US$250 to put next to their TV's and use a wireless remote control.

I am sorry if you feel this way but we have always offered to sell genuine Dream TV decoders. But without the movies and sports most people are not interested in Dream TV package.
