Just yesterday on Yanan rd highway I was thinking if it could collapse... |
Shit happens in many places, not just China (although the frequency rate is more appalling in China)

Not sure it happens more often in China, if measure in proportion to the number of infrastructures/inhabitants. My feeling is it doesnt.
Paris airport's terminal 2E (famous architect and leading construction firms involved, not to mention the airport mgt company, in a highly developed country with centuries of experience in building infrastructures)

Hey Totomolo, I heard Lebanon is a good place to see collapsing infrastructures? I heard you may know something about it. Those arabs can do anything right anyway, worse than the Chinese. Oh ****, another thread about Israel... |

here we go - the developer's license expired in 2004 apparently. Ho hum. Wonder how that small detail went unnoticed....?
Also I like the quote from the Chinese lawyer that: "According to Chinese law, they cannot have their money back or be compensated unless it is proved that their properties are too dangerous to live in even after renovation".
.......hmmmm, tricky one to prove........ |

Sheng Shunchang, a homeowner, said: "I want my money back and compensation for the price gap when I buy a new property, considering the soaring property prices."
Its not good enough if she gets her money back...but she wants someone (gov't/developer) to pay the difference in the real estate price of a new apartment? |

Just found this article while surfing through China Daily...talk about being greedy!

Father's body languishes as daughters haggle
(China Daily)
Updated: 2009-06-29 09:12
The body of an elderly man has been languishing in a funeral home in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, for nearly a month because his two daughters are haggling over his belongings.
Yu, 85, died last month and left a house and lots of money in the bank.
The two women are fighting over the money and have asked the funeral home to keep the body until they settle their differences.
Bodies are permitted to remain in a funeral home for seven days, according to Shaoxing laws. The funeral home went to court to request that the body be cremated without the two women's permission.

Interesting of you to point that out Zillah...
Oh the endless stories you will hear of from people being greedy here. The worst case I heard was where this guy was living with his parents and he's fkin 30 already, and then he gets married and needs a house so does all he can to kick his parents out onto the street. Can't remember how it ended up but oh the humanity |

I know a Chinese girl who is with a friend of mine, her ex-boyfriend's parents threatened her and her new boyfriend, saying that they would make their life hell if she didn't give them all of her money. So she did. This is after he kidnapped her and locked her in her apartment. They did it out of desperation apparently, they are poor peasants. Still sounds horrible. |

In the design approved by the authority, the Lotus project was to build eight 11-story residential buildings and two six-story buildings.
But when the accident happened, the community had 11 13-story buildings. |

The average housing price in the development was 14,297 yuan.
That seems about right although in hindsight probably 14,297 yuan too much. |
