If the people responsible for the site are interested, I have every episode of Holmes on Homes on my hard drive (Canadian Contractor who goes around and fixes other contractor's botched jobs)
Quotable quotes include
"If you're going to do something, do it right the first time."
"ah! the buggers! they didn't vent anything"
(Talking about the popularity of Do-It-Yourself renovation shows) I think the mistake is showing how simple it can be. "You can do it yourself." I'm totally against it. You might as well do your own brain operations.
"I've been fixing a lot of sloppy, lazy and dangerous work for the past two decades. I think it's time to expose the work of these so-called contractors and help some homeowners make informed decisions. I want to take the word 'minimum' out of the construction industry and stop the slow death of craftsmanship."
MIKE! THEY NEED YOU IN CHINA |

^ That is indeed a good idea, but hardly feasible.
See, the people responsible for the fuck-up is probably wearing a construction-guy shirt. Which means, he is a construction guy. He knows everything there is to know about construction.
You will not be able teach him anything. He is already tip top notch knowledgeable, and can not make any mistakes. Not now, not ever.
The building fell over, but that wasn't his fault, it was probably caused by a dragon from deep down under Shanghai who are pissed due to lack of Virgin sacrifices...
The same goes with people here wearing electrician’s shirts, internet installation guy shirts, drilling slots in wall guy shirts, bus driver shirts, baker shirt, chef shirts, refrigerated truck driver shirts, police man shirt, grossing guard shirt... In fact, any kind of shirt you can think of. Get it made, put it on a Chinese guy, and he will be a walking oracle of wisdom in whatever you wrote on the chest... You can not teach them anything new!
So again, your idea is good, but a waste of time here… |

Funny you mention this. After I've been here a year, I heard the employees call one of our drivers something to the effect of teacher...or an expert on something. All this time I've thought he was a dumbass, a crook, and a lazy piece of s**t. That was when I knew I was in some deep kimche when our office staff referred to him by that title. |

I think people here might be missing the point.
A chinese person makes a building, no one they know will live in it, their family/co-workers/peers etc wont live there.
WHY would they make the building good, this would cost more money and they would therefore get less money, since no one who they care about lives in the building this would not make sense.
I rent, but when/if I buy I will try and find a building built by a good foreign company. Id much rather have a company such as GS Construction make my building and pay a lot more. |

haha good one.
Seriously, I would rather buy an apartment in the NT in HK, than one in Shanghai CBD. At least in HK real estate is freely tradeable, foreign or local. And there will always be demand. |

Well, the Mrs and I bought our apartment here last year.
As long as there are tossers who want to buy later, then it's a pretty save investment.
Ours ain't new btw, so it ain't one of those high rises they miraculously put up over night.
We figured, paying rent is money out the window, paying the same amount in mortgage ain't...
As for buying a house where we would want to retire... Ha ha... That's going to be back home where construction follow rules, the construction guys takes pride in their work, the finished product gets inspected by people who are not in it for a round of KTV and a hongbao and where quality ain't from "It's all ok China". |

Probably New Territories still cost double from Sh. prices. Anyway, good time for investment is GONE. Just guess if in Florida have MUCH BETTER offers for investment in property. |

Cant see the connection.
Pyramid is based on greed, with the original creator likely to make big money, with the many smaller investors following, mainly losing theirs.
I bought my apartment 2 1/2 years ago, and even with the slack market since that time have been offered more than double what I paid.
That is Capital gains, which you do not get by paying rent.
Before I bought, I checked that the building was "properly" built.
But plan to sell, and upgrade in the not too distant future.
I hope I am right about the building, coz we are on 19/20 floors. |
