It's Battersea Power Station, isn't it? Like in the cover of the old Pink Floyd album. Except without a big pig floating over it. |

Are we still on topic ?
Are we still talking about the slightly different standards of behaviour between China and the West ? |

Depends. What is the standard of behavior for a Chinese person listening to an old Pink Floyd album? |

Well, since they can only listen to A Pillow of Winds, I imagine they be trippin'. Slowly. |

For Chinese rudeness, I don't think there's too many cultures on the planet that can relate to life in China over the last 50 years. That's 2 generations of stuff. That affects one's daily actions, they're learned habits, not inherent traits.

Blaming Chinese rudeness on communism? Good one. |

I think there are about as many Chinese people who know Pink Floyd as there are Chinese communists. That would be about 40 I guess. |

Seems a little high. Unless you mean Chinese who THINK they are communist when they're actually capitalist... |

Yes I guess that figure also includes foreigners. We are probably talking about less than a dozen. |

When I was in Beijing a month ago they had train workers making sure that the centre area of the door was free for people to walk off. I was in Shanghai for 5 days and already found how rude people were.
As a tourist for a few days in both cities. I guess I found Beijing people crass, but in an innocent way. Shanghai people were more deliberate in their rudeness.
Mmmm I have to choose Beijing or Shanghai in the next couple of weeks. These threads are an interesting read but I guess I need to move there to know. |

Coffee has a fixation with Communism. It's a disease you see mostly in Americans. They are simple-minded folk so you'll have to give them a little extra leeway. |

ha. harsh life, not enough to go around, fight for what you need = get in line first, don't be shy about shoving your way into line, and don't let whitey intimidate or push YOU around just because you think he's rich (that applies everywhere). Just a theory.
Are you suggesting a racial/genetic alternative? Typical French/American view points judging by your countries' histories. |

But the point has been made that the harsh life had been the norm here for a long time before communism. The same points come up repeatedly when threads get this long. It gets hard to keep track.

You mean like the dreaded thought crime that someone is OMG...inferior? Ha, no no no, cool your jets. Everyone knows that African bushmen are just as good as Nordics. |

Dumb, Archie. Make it a survival test in Africa and you're liable to lose every penny. |

Vikings where actually pillaging and raiding parts of Africa (granted only the most northern parts of it, but still ) |

I think they'd have had a more difficult time in the less-settled parts of Africa - As you say, they were into looting and pillaging, which is a little difficult to do in a hunter-gather society. I really can't see the Viking eating bugs and stuff to survive, somehow ... but then, you are in China so maybe
While we're off-topic on Vikings, did you know that a huge percentage of the British have Viking male ancestry ? Back in the misties them Veeks were very active with their large white Scandinavian penises Try Adam's Curse, a Future Without Men. Pretty interesting. |

They wouldn't eat bugs and stuff to survive. They'd find the nearest tribe, kill or rape them all and take all the stuff that THEY gathered. Then they'd get back on their boats and sail somewhere nicer.
The real question is, who raped more women... The Vikings or the Mongols? =D |

Only way Vikings would eat bugs is if the bug was stuck on big pieces of Buffalo meat, and they didn't notice it, in their meat eating orgies/rages... |

In Europe that's not so hard to do. Everything south of the Rhine is already Africa, isn't it? |
