^Haha, you two. I found myself getting bitter (as some of you have read! ) Then I went to a Western country and am now back in China in a different city which is a lot better than the previous one. I love Shanghai. I also found that after being in a Western country I was able to look at things with a different perspective, and understand why people do what they do.
I still get totally frustrated and annoyed by ill-mannered people, but I try to look at it from their perspective, and I also do a bit of vellocet does, pushing through people who are trying to get on the train, etc.
Reading about the culture and China's history helps me a lot too. |

Each year I'm in China it gets easier to live here.
I like Shanghai - It's nuts, but I like it. A lot of people complain about the place, but I suspect these people are natural born whingers anyway.
It's about 30 degrees centigrade and beautiful young Chinese women are running around in ludicrous high heels and tiny mini skirts. What's not to like?

Tried something interesting today... I stood to the side as people were exiting the train today. One kid wearing a red kerchief almost waited until everyone had exited before trying to get on.
Almost... |

i just read some of your posts here.
I am now 2 years in China. Managed
to read, write and speak the language
in that time. And I must say. Be less
Wai Guo Ren , then you will not have
any problems. People can be soo nice
if you just open up a bit. And when it
comes to shopping and you still pay a
too high price, it's because you ain't
mastered the craft of negotiating a
price. I never pay more than the locals.
And speaking the language helps.
I mean just have fun and get a smile on
your face sometimes. communicate.
Then people will treat you better. I mean
most of you should know that. In your
home countries you treat most foreigners
like **** or simply ignore them, so don't
be mad if Chinese just treat you like they
treat each other. That's still better than the
treatment Chinese will get in your home
countries.
Think about it. |

@ Lifemage - based on other posts of yours, I know you're not that stupid.
Surely you don't subscribe to that retarded "swear it's ALL good ALL of the time or go home" mentality?
Anybody who does has serious mental problems, like Sinbad.
Remember, this is the man who said:

BS
and
| Quote: |

also BS
and

What? All of us? Personally? Every country? Nice generalisation, fruit-loop.
and

See above.
Hope that's shiny, happy (and lobotomised) enough for you. |

Heyy, it's your life. If you don't like this place
feel free to leave. I love it and I like it here.
And if you want to teach chinese your great
culture. Forget about it. Why would somebody
coming form a 5000 years old culture background
like to trade it in for a western culture, that in it's
core values didn't stand a test of 200 years.
And come on. You would go nuts of a wave of
foreigners comes to your home country and start
complaining. that you don't adapt to their wishes.
I know you ain't gonna let that happen. |

I also had a pair of rose coloured glasses once. Lasted a few days, than I accidentally sat on them and broke them. It was a blessing, because now I was able to cope with the real world. |

Not necessarily true.
When Chinese 'supported the Olympics' in Auckland by gathering 5,000 odd of their compatriots, beating up a half dozen pro-t¡bet prοtesters, then (their xenophobic rage not yet spent) randomly assaulting non-Chinese people, the New Zealand police were invisible.
Contrast that with prοtests in New Zealand involving locals (e.g. those occurring a few months earlier to prοtest the Electoral Finance Act), which are typically heavily policed.
So you're wrong. . .
And do you really think China is going to allow 5,000 foreigners to gather and prοtest?
Now **** off dickhead. . . |

Yeah right. Everyone here prays to Almighty God Renminbi, just like in those young nations back West, albeit our gods have different names. But all gods are welcome at the alters of Starbucks, McD's, KFCs, Costas, Beaneries, and a million other retailers, etc. ad nauseam morphing up out of the poo all across the country, all mobbed by non-queuing locals.

Actually we do have waves of "foreigners" who riot and have giant demonstrations. And not one single Earl Turner. |

Ok...maybe I spoke to soon.
BUT there is something to be said for having a positive mental attitude. Makes a mountain of difference here (anywhere). The exact same situation can be experienced as a total nightmare, a good laugh or like nothing at all, depending on your outlook. If you leave the house in the morning...just waiting for shite to happen, expecting it or even inviting it, than you might as well tape a "kick me" sign to your back.
I know that I've had those moments....like...crossing an intersection and HOPING, WISHING that the car cutting through all the pedestrians, will bump me and I can break the fVkking windshield with my skateboard and pull the driver out through it.
I hate that SHITE....BUT (here's the point) I HATE MYSELF MORE for letting myself become a negative, vengeful, violent, short-tempered goon, looking to vent my rage.
I mean, just how much of our (mental/emotional) wellbeing is dependent on our environment? How much are WE in control of our own responses to these situations?
THEY piss me off. THEY make me sooo mad. THEY drive me crazy.
Bullshite...only if YOU allow it. THEY are just doing what they do everyday.
Personally, I choose the path of least resistance and that seems to work the best, it allows my days to flow smoothly and for the most part, I'm able to retain my positivity, my sense of humour (and my sanity).
The same situation with a car cutting through the crosswalk...a different attitude...and I'm like pure ZEN. |

@marakanis.
I still wonder why you're still here. I mean the way you are trying to
badmouth anything Chinese in this forum, it should be better for you
to spend your energy on buying a ticket to your home country.
The same goes for the rest of the complainers here. If you don't like
it. Leave it alone. Nobody in China will miss you guys. |
