Oh well, West Lake is beautiful in different ways in different weather...att least it wont be cold at 19-25˚.

Cost per person should still be 500rmb per person which covers bus, driver, hotel, and local guide for Sat and Sun. Additional admission fees for the scenic points and boat ride will be approximatelyy 115rmb. Hope this won't break anyone's bank.

Hotel name in CHinese: 华侨饭店

See you all Saturday morning!

Dear all,

Especially those who went to Hangzhou. Altogether the 12 of us, we have a great time! Thank you all.

West lake is beautiful, except that it is raining whole day! But it didn't really spoil the fun, we have a good time taking pictures and making lots of noise whenever we go.

The lunch (in the big big room) and dinner (Yummy seafod hot pot) on the first day is good... we all like it! Follow by the Paradise Pub where some of us, play dices, ordered more than a dozen of cocktails drinks for Paranoid, lawdude has some amount of drinks with the game( he claims that its been a long time since he has so much alcohol in one go! Hee hee) And god knows what happen starting from the second pub....

The second day was enjoying and tiring too. This JenMing was climbing the Pagoda so fast that I have a hard time catching up! My legs almost give way after 7 storeys of huge step aerobics in the early morning! ( come on, I have 3 plates of stuff for breakfast!) Alas, its worth the view.....!

We knocked some bells alright! Standing under the big bell... realising its not as loud in the centre of the bell, good finding tx2sh! I learn something today...

Well, lunch sucks for me at Ling Ying Shi. But its all make up with the magnificent views of the old ancient temple. Some old 362AD temples and Buddha keeps me wondering how did our ancestors; thousands of years ago manage to put that heavy stuff into the mountains?! How much effort had been used to preserve these masterpiece of art and religion? And last but not least, how manof us make it to the final temple at the top of the hill? Well, we only manage to climb to the second level! Snoopy is barking at me and pushing to make it to the second level. Thanks snoopy, glad you didn't bite! Oh, Yu888, i owe you one Kuai, the coin that you gave me didn't mange to land at that round stone fountain! Well, next time when you throw the coins, try not to kill the bystanders!

Ending the day with a great dinner! Good recommendation Jenming! Thanks for the treat everybody! You all shouldn't have. I didn't really do much. Its all Yu888 effort. I just merely suggest to go to Hangzhou thats all. Thanks to D (xiao di), Yu888(xiao Pangzhi), paranoid(forever eating in the photos), snoopy (the umbrella carrier), anne (the loud laughther), tx2sh (the most "attractive"), jenming(the nutrionist) , lawdude(mr. good man), Haruna(i forgot you nick), smurfette ( the silent eater), the beer guy (well i dun need to explain more) 68+1 (my roomate! Imagine that!) I hope that I didn't miss out anybody! We will meet again to exchange photos! looking forward to that!

P/s, while i am writing this post... yu, anne, Haruna and 68 is still drinking at the restaurant pub! These dude can really party!

anne (the loud laughther)

Talking about me? Well, laughing out loud showed that I had a good time. Thank you all for this weekend. It was great. If I annoyed anyone with my laughing, sorry - but that's me!

Thank you Yu and Wes for all the work you did - great job!
Would not mind if we do this kind of things more often. Next event will be the Hangzhou post-meeting Wink)
Will try my best to organize this one, I promise!
By the way, Yu, Haruna, gfo68 and me really had a good time in the pub last night...and I enjoyed sleeping until 9:00 Wink)

Hope to see you all soon again.

HA HA HA - the laughing Anne

Wow, thanks to all for making this a really fun trip. yes, despite a bit of rain (major understatement) the trip was very enjoyable! since most people had not met enachother before in this group,. I was a but hesitant about how well it would go, but alas it turned out to be the perfect chemistry with everyone filling a niche necessary for such a trip to be enjoyable and successful.

The trip started out with most of us dragging our sleepy selves to the meeting point near XuJiaHui ... was it really 830? Everyone was surpisingly prompt though a few of us got a bit turned around waiting at the wrong lobby. Oh well, we all made it.

The bus took off around 9 am as envisioned and we made an uneventful trip into HangZhou, missing the only rest stop on the way (whoops). Luckily, we had some troopers in this group who sucked it up and waited until we got there. Wink. Our first stop into Hangzhou was lunch. Everyone was treated to a really good meal there and then we were ready to tackle the rainy-day tour. We picked up our guide and went to the dock to go on our baot tour. We were in luck that they had chaged from the little boats to the bigger ferry-style boats so we toured the lake in comfort and safely arrived at the largest island for about a 2 hour walk around this beautiful place. We managed to get pretty darned wet and the only casualty was my umbrella, which is now on the bottom of a lagoon. Embarassed

After the island, we boated to another part of the shoreline and slowly made our way to our first HangZhou Coffee meeting! In attendence were all 12 members who came on our trip. Wesley, Tx2SH, gfo68, paranoid, snoopy, dyniquee, junefair, jenming, lawdude, smurfette, anne, and yu888. As mentioned earlier, this group seemed to get along fairly well and for a randomly assembled group, really was one of the best groups I have travelled with.

After coffee (aka drying off and warming up) we returned to our hotel which we all must thank Alexia (not online alot) for arranging, which was facing the lake on the eastern shoreline, right along the promenade of Hubing park. Nice rooms for the price and location was good.

Dinner (did anyone notice that our trip revolved around food? Wink ) was a great one too. We ended up at hot[ot place right next to the hotel since we elected to avoid the rain a bit. Turned out to be very good. Good call Wesley for selecting this place and doing much of the ordering!

After dinner, we tried to go check out the nightlife in Hangzhou. First we went into the Paradise Bar where Paranoid was to drink her eleven drinks. There were exactly 11 cocktails on the menu so... In the end we were nice and allowed her to taste all of them and finish the one(s) she liked and we did the rest (no point in wasting a drink eh?) Then as a few more people left to settle in, we went to check out NanShan road. We walked past many bars along Nan Shan Road and finally made it into a place called DNA Dance club where everyone was drinking but n one was dancing. Paranoid, Junefair, anne, gfo and snoopy put an end to that problem. As they started dancing, others follwed suit. Interesting because people were dancing near tehir own tables up until then, just did not want to go out and dance in front of the DJ booth.

It was an early night for most of us as we made it back to get some sleep for the longer second day of touring. Day 2 started with no hangovers, though certain participants elected just to stay a bit bizzed to counter that effect Wink.

This day was filled tour spots such as the 6 Harmonies Pagoda along the Qian Tang Jiang, the Soul Searching Temple (Lin Ying Shi) up in the hills (beautiful place!) and tea village where we tasted teas under no obligation to be ripped off, but we volutarily bought stuff anyways...

The trip home was a bit more eventful than the trip out as we stopped in JiaXing for rice dumplings and rest stop before almost slamming into an idiot driver as we came back into Shanghai.

We did a final dinner together at Red Ant restaurant on ZhoaJiaBangLu, where the food was very good as was the service (thanks D for ordering! and thanks Jenming and Smerfette for selecting the place!). We mosly parted was after this though I stayed for a drink with Junefair, gfo, and anne before we all took off.

All in all, a great weekend! Thanks again to all who took part! maybe we will do this again...but not too soon as I am now pooped out.

Ooooo, thank God, thank everyone and everything, me, i mean we got back alive, and physically completely finally! Though maybe with tiny loss as someone's umbrella, huh? Mr. Green

I started missing the greenness of HZ......since last night, actually.

BTW, I wanna ask the four who stayed after dinner, anyone checked out that electric chair there?
I saw it had buttons on one side, so maybe it's a real one?

Guess who checked that chair out...of course gfo68, who else?

Did not harm him though (I hope). I just sticked to checking out the cocktails Wink

Nice finish for a nice weekend trip. Thanks again

Fantastic trip, everyone! We must do this more often. Great group to travel with, bar none! Enjoying reading the descriptions of our trip by yu888 and wesley (oh, but did you have to bring me up in the Paradise Bar bit? Wink No worries--loved every minute of it!). Hangzhou was very nice despite (and at time, because of) the rain on Saturday.

Oh, it's Monday and I miss hanging with you guys and gals, so we better arrange another trip asap--D, you working on that list of destinations? Very Happy

SO much history and so little time. The trip went by so fast, (except when carrying the umbrella) that the only time we had a chance to reflect was when we were eating (practically all the time). Lawdude, you can hang with the best of them! Great pictures and great dice rolling.....Smurfette...also matched lawdude drink for drink. Paranoid Smurfette and Junefair on top of the speaker dancing at the bar? They opted not to use the pole.....Anne, Junefair and Paranoid got the party started. way to go!

Wesley, total character and fun person.......keep it up and you will be promoted to tour guide in no time with the flag, whistle and microphone......

Thank you Yu888 and Alexia Lin for organizing this trip and making it fun
Thank for you lunch Junefair...i am sure the rice dumplings are as good as Wesley said they are.
Tx2SH has a very cool cellphone that tends to surprise you if you're not paying attention.
Jenming, i could use a few more health tips from you. I ate no rice with yesterday's dinner. That's the first time i have done that eating asian food in about 15 years.
gfo68....Beer...it;s not just for breakfast anymore...What about 2nd breakfast? Elevenses, Luncheon, Afternoon Tea (beer), Dinner, Supper, bedtime snack, midnight snack? Your hands must be tired from carry your whole supply the entire day!
Paranoid....how are your feet? along with gfo68 there was no lack of entertainment!
Lawdude...thanks for all the picture taking.

And all others as well since i left my camera in SHanghai.

Paranoid's feet are tired? Did I miss something? What, with Snoopy carrying her umbrella and all, I'd figure she'd have an easy time of it! Wink

Hey, all: Unless the site Gods have a better idea, I'm going to burn anyone (of our trip group) who wants one a CD of photos (turns out I took about 170 usuable shots Shocked --photos, not that Paradise thing Razz.

Wow, D: Just saw your post as I was typing this one! Makes our HZ weekend outing sound even more fun! Very Happy Wink

Hidden sparks everywhere. We just couldn;t see it because we were INSIDE the shuttle bus and didn;t notince the muffler dragging on the raod.....

By the way i forgot to mention the bus driver was quite good at avoiding getting us all killed. HAIL TO THE BUS DRIVER!

Right, on, Snoopy! Hail! He not only avoided pureeing an old Santana and keeping us all safe and happy, but he put up with that dreaded "disco" cassette on the way home and entertained Anne to the point of hysterics whenever navigational discussions arose.

Definitely call that dude again when we need a ride!

Come on Snoopy! You know what trip!

Bad bad dog!
No bones for you tonight!

As you can see from the postings echo, the trip is more than good.

To me, its the goup of people that made this trip so successful and memorable. It's a pity you missed it this time, but plenty of chances in the future.

Sparks of romance were in the air, especially on a rainny day... where poetic scenaries enhances the surroundings, the atmosphere was heated up to the highest! A nice lady was drooling over my shoulder, she was exceptionally beautiful when the saliva was about to drip and she sucks it back (ha ha ha ha) ... and yes we DO fall in love. Many of us is in LOVE...................................... with the good food and the disco music we played in the Iveco sports van! So Xixi, you are welcome to join in the next time!

I am so sorry Lawdude, it's just that its not easy to get sixes on a dice and youhave been drinking so many times! I was so thirsty then you know!? Ha ha.

Snoopy, next time if i am ever promoted to the rank of atour guide, I will definetly get you people some green caps! (緑帽!)

Thansk Dyniquee, now everybody knows how heavy i am! hee hee. how can i change my nick here to DaPangZhi? You are hooking up another one? You have such big appetti, pity your mate man!

Hi Yu, you can start an expat tour business for your professionalism you shown during this trip.... cheap and good!

Anne, of course i love your laughther. It always brighten up my day!

Errhh... where is my roomate? gfo68? still drinking somewhere?

smurfetee, thanks for the discussion we had. I hope my info is of some use to you.

Paranoid - sigh.... hope your big feet is feeling better now. You need to exercise more and eat less!

Tx2h - ha ha. i like to buy your super vibrating phone. You gave me such a fright while I am talking to you and you just waved your hands in the air... too deep into the pockets huh? Congrats on your big improvement in your Pu tong Hua too!

Junefair - arigato gozaimasu for your lunch... you are so generous, i will stick with you more often so that I can have more free meals... hee hee.

Jenming, we will now standby mineral water and bamboo shroots for your meals.... Very Happy

I hope i didn't miss anyone. Once again thanks everybody. If i ever have a chance to choose my travel mates. It will still be you guys again!

Wow... Since nearly everybody wrote a long travel note, here goes mine.

8:30 was a bit early for a girl who needed to wash and dry her hair. Thank god I wasn't too late. Someone who lives opposite to the pine city was even later.
On the way to hangzhou, we were a bit reserved at first. But it didnt take long for us to get noisy. Razz
Thanks to D ,who booked the restaurant for lunch, and Wesley who confirmed the restaurant to be a good one from his travel Bible, we managed to have a good meal to warm up the whole journey.
Despite the fact that it was raining more than it should, we had a good trip in the island with our shy, gentle, student-looking tour guide who didnt even bother to turn around and check if we lost anybody (luckily, we didnt, except Yu's umbrella)
The starbucks in hangzhou xin tian di looks much nicer with a lot of trees and bamboos surrounded. And I must be the happiest one in the starbucks. I was having a pint of haagendaz icecream at the same time!
The dinner was great too. Thanks Wesley! I love this hot pot. It didnt give me any hot pot smell at all.
Well, after the dinner, I was supposed to finish 11 cocktails in paradise bar for some reason, which turned out to be tasting 11 cocktails. Thanks everybody. I have learned to mind my words from then on... Wink
As i insisted to check out nan shan road, 9 of us decided to continue our party there. People in hangzhou seemed to end the day quite early. We didnt see as many people as it was in shanghai. Dancing in DNA club was real fun with you guys and gals. Best dancers goes to Junefair and .......Yu888! Shocked
Most of us called it a day...while I bought a sausage and sushi after we got to the hotel. Embarassed Yeah, I d better reveal it myself. Since you all know that I usually dont stop eating and GFO89 doesnt stop drinking, we dont need to behave now.

Anne Very Happy I heard your laughters even I was four seats away from you. And I love it. Hey I count on you to organize a gathering together for exchanging the photos!

Dyniquee You are way different from what you are in the board. U guys would be so regretful if you hasnt had a date with her. She is a star! But one thing to be careful, D kept collecting money from everyone. Wink

Junefair Thanks for you treat in ling yin si. I felt so lucky not to pay for what I dont like. And let me know, when is ur next business trip. I volunteer to be your parnter. Embarassed

Smurfette Are you sure that I didnt snor or grind my teeth in the sleep? And thanks for the socks. Am I qualified to be your roommie next time? I promise I wont annoy you like that when I take a nap in the van next time...

Tx2SH Thanks for you tip about the hair. I missed the scene when you were shocked by your cell phone. What a pity. BTW, I have bought the hair bend already.

GFO68 It's still a mysterious how he could find his way to hotel alone after tons of beers and woke up quite early for breakfast and vodka. Shocked

Jenming: Why nobody noticed that jenming actually ate more than I did?! He was always the one who kept eating till everybody stood up and left!

Lawdude The good guy of the good guys. While snoopy was working as an umbrella boy, he was taking care of D's big schoolbag and taking pictures for us, cuz some of us had run out of battery already.

Snoopy Well, man. I do thank you for all what you have done during the trip. It would be so boring without you in the group. Thank god, you managed to make the trip. Next time icecream on me.

Wesley I agree with smurfette about your laughters. It was unique and hilarious. Laughing Much better than my witch-like ones. Let's go karaoke sometime! p.s. I have the info of kai hua restaurant ready. will pm you in any minute.

Yu888 You totally removed my worries about getting bored with some elder members. You are more energetic and interesting than any youngsters I knew.

Thanks all for the wonderful two days. I m waiting for the next trip already though I was totally tired out after I got home.

All right! That's it! It's too long. I dont have so much patience writing a long and boring travel note with a empty stomach. I m going for food right now!

Thanks to all you guys making the descriptive and entertaining posts regarding our nice weekend trip. For once, I'm not the longest poster in a thread! But I am moved at this time to make a few comments:

Yu888: As one of the trip organizers and always on top of all the details of our trip, I join in the chorus of "thank you" for making our weekend fun and problem free, and for climbing trees on islands while some of us wonder whether the electric cable you're using for a climbing rope is live Shocked .

Wesley: Buddy (or should I say, "Buddha"? Wink ) you are great! Always a good guy with a good laugh at the coffees, but you're a riot on a trip! Loved your laughter and good demeanor, and you make a damn fine tour guide and restaurant server. Laughing

Snoopy: Umbrella Man, I have started my umbrella apprenticeship under you, but you will always be the master! Cool Glad I was able to help keep you and the rest of the dice-squad at the Paradise table from getting drunk with my dice rolls. Had a blast. We'll have to hang out some more.

Paranoid: I'm humbled by your compliment. Thanks. I'm really glad to get to know you more from this trip and to learn the fantastic effect of Hagen Daaz Razz (and I've got photos to remind us). You are alot of fun to have around--funny faces for the camera and all! And hey, you looked cute when you stuck your head out the hotel room door when Yu888 and I passed by Sunday morning (apparently a little early for you!). Glad to be of service in the photo department--I've got a CDR waiting for you!

Smurfette: You always look like a cute little girl, but you're really such an intellectual--inquisitive and analytical. It's really great. I'll want to chat with you more on the next trip!

TX2SH: Okay, the lasting image of you from this weekend (and it may be with me forever) is your reaction to your mobile's vibrating alert at dinner Sunday night Laughing . I thought I'd never stop laughing! Enjoyed traveling with you and hope to do it again.

Jenming: Hey, Roomie! Dude, you're a quiet riot. Without ever getting loud, you're able to make the rest of us laugh and get nutty (who knew mineral water could've been such an entertaining subject?) and I'm always impressed with your well-reasoned, well-balanced and just plain great take on things in this world. Hope we get to hang out together more, because you're a really good guy.

gfo68: You're a RIOT (and not quiet)! Entertaining at all times (to us as well as numerous busloads of tourists on the highway to Hangzhou and a certain tollbooth operator who is probably still blushing). You are alright, man. And a true marine: Out the latest, had the most to drink--and you were down early to breakfast with the rest of the "few and the proud" on Sunday morning: Fantastic! I had previously met everyone else that went on the trip except for you, but we certainly would've missed out if you hadn't come on the trip--and there would've been alot of sorrier beer merchants in Hangzhou!!

Junefair: Thanks for lunch in Ling Yin Si! Glad to get to know you better on this trip and hope that we'll get the chance to travel again while you're in Shanghai.

Anne: I'll think of you whenever I hear a loud bus driver! Wonderful to travel with you, and I'm impressed that you were able to survive and maybe even enjoy the one-man Oktoberfest next to you on the bus (gfo68--I say this with love to you, brother!).

D: You're awesome--as I've always thought. Enjoyed being your dice game advisor before I decided to join in as a full player (and subsequently getting suddenly worse--or is that better?--at playing) at Paradise. Paranoid is totally right: You are a star. So much fun to be with. Your explanations and prayers made Ling Yin Temple a religious experience for me, and I deeply appreciate that. Let's get the next trip planned! Smile

Hey, great group! Really enjoyed being with every one of you.

Anne: I'm going to PM you all with an idea for the post-HZ photo meeting.

Well, I think instead of posting a little bit about how everybody *was*, I'll post a bit about how they *weren't*, not what I enjoyed happening, but what I enjoyed *not* happening.

What the hell am I talking about?

I hate travelling with tour groups. It drives me INsane. Whenever you go on a trip with a group, ESPECIALLY when there's people you don't know too well, there's something bad about it 99% of the time. Allow me to give some examples, and how these things didn't happen on this trip.

* The "I have to go to the bathroom" person. - this person has to go the bathroom every 20 minutes, and ends up making the rest of the group wait for them, generally adding up to about an hour of waiting for one person per day, when you've only got 16 hours in a day, that's a big percentage. BUT, NO one did this on the trip. Everybody was AMAZINGLY patient about their bladder conditions.

* The "I can't/don't like to/won't eat that... or that.... or that... or that... or that" person. No matter what restaurant you go to, no matter what dish you get, this person always ends up needing to stop somewhere else to get something special for themselves. On the trip, people had preferences in the group, and a few people had *one or two* things they couldn't eat, but that was IT. Eating was simple as could be on this trip.

* The Person Who Isn't There On Time. This person never makes it back to the meeting place on time. They always sleep in way past departure time in the morning. They are always held back for some *legitimate* excuse, losing their way, or losing track of time, losing their camera, . Mostly losing respect. Everybody was punctual within 10 minutes. UNHEARD OF.

* The person who snores/sings/burps/eats durian/spits/smokes/farts/vomits on the bus. 'Nuff said - didn't happen.

* The person with their *own* itinerary. This person has read 10 different travel guides on the destination, and won't be satisfied unless you go to ALL of the places *they* want to go to. Miss any one of these spots, and that's all you hear about for the whole rest of the trip. This time, everyone was content to go to whatever spot was next, and if something was skipped, NO ONE complained.

Thank you all for being exemplary travel mates. I used up very little patience the WHOLE weekend. Much less than I use when I'm in Shanghai. I felt especially re-energized today, it much of it is thanks to you all. (I also have to credit a chunk of that to the trees and mountains and lake in Hangzhou, though Smile)

You've helped restore some of my faith in group travel Smile
