Hey, teddy girl: I'll be happy to share the photos with all the shexpat community. I think we'll end up posting some to the site (not only my photos, but I'm sure there are others with pics to post from the trip). I'll check on how to do this. If only a few people want to see all the photos, I can probably burn a few more. I'll keep you posted.
Reminds me: To all our HZ group, maybe we can get our photos together and put them all to a single CDR that has everyone's photos (at least the ones they want to share!) on it. Good idea? |

Yu888 You totally removed my worries about getting bored with some elder members. You are more energetic and interesting than any youngsters I knew

Wow Paranoid, I guess you have to think about your general view on "elder" members. BTW, when does "elder" start? Do I have to be concerned?
But you are right in saying that Yu definitely has power enough for two persons. Great respect for that. I wish sometimes I would have that much energy, too. Need a kick in the ass (but not when it comes to parties)

and I'm impressed that you were able to survive and maybe even enjoy the one-man Oktoberfest next to you on the bus
|
Lawdude, you made me laugh so hard that I guess my neighbours will recognize my laugh as well! Well, it wasn't really that bad. gfo68 and all you other folks could say the same about me as well. I guess we all were just having a good time and the beautiful sights, trees and silence made us so relaxed that nothing could really bother us.
Oh, please let me have one of the CDR. I took some 70 pictures which I would be glad to share.
Junefair, thanks again for the lunch and the drinks. You are great and we definitely should spend more time together when you are back in Shanghai;-)
OK, got to get some sleep. Have to work tomorrow again;-(

Nice, D. Do u have to put on that defensive tone on everything i comment? It is common knowledge that a group of girls and boys travel together, one couple is likely to develop further relationshiop afterward which happens to many Chinese here too. If u have to think about what is the real meaning behind every word other people comment, well, you will find it too hard to hook up a foreign bf as i know you are not interested in Chinese guys. |

You know XiXi, that was uncalled for. But, maybe so was D's sarcasm. But I guess if you are a bit touchy on this subject, you;ve got some insecurities to deal with. Please just don't do it on our travel trip tread. Thanks.

There might be legal issues with some of those pictures!!!! Remember i work for a magazine....be very easy to find yourself in the centerfold.....next to a lovely digital map of SHanghai and the metro system.
This map brought to you by, "The Hang ZHou Council of 12" Please inquire within......and bring your umbrella....
I think WHite Snake must have been a very good swimmer.
Dyniquee, what photo are you talking about? You can't prove it was me.....i was not there. I didn't know who she was, and i never laid a paw on her.
ALthough there was someone there with a shirt that had a word written on it but i could only see the middle letters of L-I R. The first and the last letter were covered although the clue is within this sentence as to what those letters were. |

Hey everyone I finally made it. Too much recovery time needed for this battered body. It's great to read this thread. Its almost like I was there, oh wait I was.
Just want to start of by saying a general thanks to everyone for being nice to the new guy and not tricking me into doing anything stupid. (But I can always do that on my own). It was good to get out and meet 11 different prople who all got along. I haven't seen that since kindergarten field trips and those had nap time.
My typing talent lacks and I have problems articulating funny things on screen so I will leave it at this. GREAT TRIP, GREAT PEOPLE AND A GREAT TIME. ALL IN ALL YOU ALL ROCK.
Hope to see you at the coffee meeting this week.
(By the way thanks to Lawdude for helping me get connected to the inernet again while not at work).

Hey, Snoopy--I'm in for the ski trip, whenever it is! I really think we ought to plan more local trips and even a "big" trip during a holiday week (t¡bet in October, anyone?). I'd love to tour the whole country with you guys!
gfo68: Glad to help! |

Well, I think instead of posting a little bit about how everybody *was*, I'll post a bit about how they *weren't*, not what I enjoyed happening, but what I enjoyed *not* happening.
What the hell am I talking about?
I hate travelling with tour groups. It drives me INsane. Whenever you go on a trip with a group, ESPECIALLY when there's people you don't know too well, there's something bad about it 99% of the time. Allow me to give some examples, and how these things didn't happen on this trip.
* The "I have to go to the bathroom" person. - this person has to go the bathroom every 20 minutes, and ends up making the rest of the group wait for them, generally adding up to about an hour of waiting for one person per day, when you've only got 16 hours in a day, that's a big percentage. BUT, NO one did this on the trip. Everybody was AMAZINGLY patient about their bladder conditions.
* The "I can't/don't like to/won't eat that... or that.... or that... or that... or that" person. No matter what restaurant you go to, no matter what dish you get, this person always ends up needing to stop somewhere else to get something special for themselves. On the trip, people had preferences in the group, and a few people had *one or two* things they couldn't eat, but that was IT. Eating was simple as could be on this trip.
* The Person Who Isn't There On Time. This person never makes it back to the meeting place on time. They always sleep in way past departure time in the morning. They are always held back for some *legitimate* excuse, losing their way, or losing track of time, losing their camera, . Mostly losing respect. Everybody was punctual within 10 minutes. UNHEARD OF.
* The person who snores/sings/burps/eats durian/spits/smokes/farts/vomits on the bus. 'Nuff said - didn't happen.
* The person with their *own* itinerary. This person has read 10 different travel guides on the destination, and won't be satisfied unless you go to ALL of the places *they* want to go to. Miss any one of these spots, and that's all you hear about for the whole rest of the trip. This time, everyone was content to go to whatever spot was next, and if something was skipped, NO ONE complained.
Thank you all for being exemplary travel mates. I used up very little patience the WHOLE weekend. Much less than I use when I'm in Shanghai. I felt especially re-energized today, it much of it is thanks to you all. (I also have to credit a chunk of that to the trees and mountains and lake in Hangzhou, though )
You've helped restore some of my faith in group travel
jenming |
Here still i'm not gonna post on what a wonderful group we have and how exciting and interesting the trip has been to envy other hard-working-on-weekend folks here
And a bit more fortunate than Jenming, I have always stored some faith in group travel. It could not be any more true that in a travelling group, there are always those bathroom, food-picky, loud-speaking, shopping-mania, and etc people. While in my eyes, these are all real persons that just like ourselves who are always living with flaws somehow. BUT don't forget, also like anyone of us, every member of group has their cute and interesting sides. Talking about this, I could recall a lot of really nice people i met during each group trip... They all have their shortcomings which sometimes are really annoying, but after all they turn out to be nice and make all my previous trips good memory.
The worst of all, is the time to say goodbye after every trip, I really dislike the moment at the airport before trip ended, felt like the farewell of a family but you know generally the chance that getting back together would be very minor. This always drove my some depressed.
The HZ trip, needless to say, tops my travel experience and even better, i don't have to lose contact with the "new family members"!
Have a great day all! |

Each time I return to this thread, I get a big smile. We really had a fantastic group for this trip--really amazing that 12 people got on so seamlessly! Really special. I'd travel with you all many times again, and I hope we do. |
