Hi tennis-players
I have gotten myself a strong craving for playing tennis again after being in hibernation for the longest time. Only played a handful of matches over the past 9 years after having been a competition player back in Denmark when I was in my earliest 20s (try and remember a male Danish tennis pro and you know this doesn't mean all that much).
Having looked at previous topics and searched for the meaning of 'NTRP Playing Levels' I would say that I was a '5' back then (good pace and bounce on the forehand and a pretty hard serve), but a lot of water has run under the bridge since, several kg's have been added, many cigarettes have been smoked and---well, the movement won't be anything to brag about, you get the point. We're talking about a bit of a restoration project.
Anyway - if you have a bit of patience and a bit of game, I'm sure we'll have a good laugh. I'm extremely flexible as regards playing time but don't have immediate access to any court.
Send me message or get in contact through: 15900898843
Looking forward to meeting you and sweating it out!
Best,
Glen Mikkelsen

No? Nobody?
If anyone is the least bit scared off by me saying that I used to be a '5' -let me reiterate that I'm nowhere near that now, nor am I likely to get there anytime soon. Its probably more like 3-3.5 today. Just looking for some good fun and exercise.
Don't be shy .
Best, Glen |

Hi Glen. If i eventually move to SH as planned, i will look you up. i also have tennis cravings after almost 2yrs away from the game. i was probably a 4-4.5 at my "prime" back in high school. played a little club tennis in college, and with a city league afterwards, before coming to china.
my racquets are back home in the US though. do you know if the name brand racquets here are any good - even from the fake-goods shops? i sometimes want to buy a couple babolat or wilson racquets here, but the grips are all tiny (4 1/4") and not sure if the materials/construction is any good. |

Hi Bleeper
The up-scale department stores- and sports stores certainly carry the brand names(real thing), but now that you say it, the grip thing might be an issue.
I bought a couple of Babolat ones with 4 1/4 and put an extra roll of grip on them, and that suits me well enough. I suppose if you know the model you want and you find the right store, you can have them order a different size.
Maybe try to contact this guy: http://www.ecplaza.net/tradeleads/seller/3183328/wilson_ncode_series_b abolat.html
And yeah, get in touch when/if you get here . |

Hi Glen,
I am from India and have played a lot of tournaments when I was in India. I moved here from Singapore about 3 weeks back and am keen on playing tennis. I live in Pudong (Zhangjiang) and have a couple of courts at my place. Let me know if we can play sometime.

Glen and Krips,
You both are way above the level that we play at. I can let you know when we play next which would be at the weekend.
Cheers

Glenn,
I'm interested and in the same situation. Former 5.0/4.5 level player who hasn't played in about 10 years. Am 40 years old now and am looking to restart.
My racquets will certainly show the date I last played as they are ancient compared to todays technology.
You can contact me via dgplo@yahoo.com or 1300 328 2071
thanks,
Dan |

Hi all, I just moved into an apartment at Shimao in Pudong, have my tennis racquets at the ready so let me know if you fancy a game. I'm free most evenings and weekends.
No idea of my rating - have played a fair bit of competitive doubles but not a huge amount of singles. Either leave a message on here or email me on knowles_adam@hotmail.com if you fancy a hit/game and know of a good place to play (there are courts where I live but you need to be a member)
Cheers, Adam |

Hi tennis fans, I moved from U.S about a month ago and would love to just rally or playing matches with you guys. I'm at 4.0
the complex I live now has great facility-4 indoor and 2 outdoor and seldom anyone playing there. And the rate is very reasonable. But the catch is that it is in JiaDing, about 20Km from the city center.
Hit me up...
Cheers,
Shane |

Hi Glen and all the other tennis cracks ,
I actually wanted to just create the exact same post here as you, Glen!
I am in the same situation. Used to play a lot, tournaments, singles as weel as in teams.
I am German, almost 30 now and havent played for more than 10 years. I dont know why exactly but my wish to restart playing got stronger and stronger during this year. I really want to enjoy hitting some balls and playing some great matches again.
I am sure though, that I play horribly bad by now. I would say I was probably a 5.0 back then. It probably takes a while to catch up and some patience by the partner.
Would be great to catch up together. So if you still have some time available, I would be glad to meet you for some first practice.
The only problem is, that I dont have any equipment now, where do you recommend to buy rackets? I wont even try to find size 12 shoes here, maybe I'll order them online. I also don't have a clue, which rackets are good these days. Any hints?
Lookin forward to hear from you.
Philipp

Hi Philipp,
A visit to Decathlon would be worth it but they don't have the greatest range of racquets from Wilson, Head and all. There is a pretty good shop in Cloud Nine Mall but near to where you are, New World (next to Radisson on People Square) is worth a visit.

Hello tennis lovers!
I am in Shanghai until October 6th this time, maybe staying longer in the future. I have a real thirst for tennis and play regularly back home (UK) but cannot find public tennis courts or anyone to play with on this trip if anyone would like a game just send me a mail (ball.andrew@gmail.com)
I am staying in the city centre (near xin zha road metro station). I can make it any time any day, but I do not have any of my own racquets or balls with me, so would either need to borrow one or find a cheap shop to buy before play.
I have no ranking or 'level' as such, but consider myself intermediate with bags of energy and just love the game. Let me know.
Cheers,
Andy |

I'm looking for a good hitting partner 4.0 or better that can play Sunday mornings. There are courts by my place which is right off Metro line 6 - Children's Medical Center. PM me if interested. |

Hi Tennis gang
I've just relocated to Shanghai and I'm looking for some tennis partners for a good game. I reckon I'm a 4.5 to 5 on a good day. I live in Xuhui district and there's a court at my apartment but it costs $60/hr. Back in Singapore I play 2-3x a week, usually doubles, but singles is fine as well.
I play at my condo and club, so mixing around with other grade of players is fine.
I available evenings and weekends in the evening.
BTW anyone know where is a good place to get tennis balls? I usually prefer to play with new balls every time.

I recommend Dunlop Fort Elite. A tin can of 3 balls costs 31 RMB. Or Slazenger, not as durable as Dunlop but quite a few fans from Europe, for 33 RMB a can.
I've been getting Dunlop Fort Elite tennis balls (3 per tin can) from this place for a couple of years. The playability (bounce, visibility, and weight) and durability of these balls are similar to my favorite Dunlop GrandPrix XD tennis balls. Links to their taobao shop:
Dunlop Fort Elite
http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db1-10be46096f7566e2a95b38 76aea2c5a1.htm
Slazenger
http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_detail-0db1-7ea2c522f411d3c993b371 a2b3a38a61.htm
If you don't know how to buy on taobao, and/or understand no Chinese at all, go ahead and print out the linked pages above anyway. When you're in XuJiaHui, go to the stadium area, where you'll easily find a few tennis shops. Show them the printouts, they'll know what you're looking for. |
