Artist JohnLong
Studio JohnLong Tattoo and Piercing
Location Shanghai, China

Just a few days ago I decided that I wanted to get my belly button pierced. I had always loved piercings [I have 4 others] and I really wanted a body piercing since my previous ones had all been on my ears. Of course, my parents didn't feel as excited, so I decided to get a piercing that was more easy to hide. I figured that if I told them after I got it, they would be angry, but wouldn't make me take out the actual piercing. Now anyway, one of my friends had just recently gotten hers pierced and told me it was a blast, so I was even more enthusiastic about my own. The few days before, I kept pinching my belly as hard as I could to see how much it would hurt. I'm sorry to say this, but I can't lie. No matter how hard you pinch it, the needle does hurt more. [Don't worry, it's so brief!]
Finally, the big day came. After school my friend [who had gotten the piercing] and I hitched a taxi and got to the store. Let me just tell you, don't be fooled by the size of the parlour! The entire complex was quite tiny, not even half the size of my own house. But I barely noticed. JohnLong Tattoo was one of the first tattoo and piercing parlours in Shanghai, and the place was also one of the best. The moment I entered the complex I was completely amazed. Everything was so beautifully clean and modern. There were tons of body jewelry everywhere, all snug in their little display cabinets. I had a hard time choosing one, because there were so many pretty ones. However, I ended up decideing on a very simple ring with baby-blue jewels in the top and bottom. When choosing your first ring, it's always better to start out with something simple. Even though it may look more plain next to all the other sparkly rings in the display case, once it is on your skin it always looks bett er! At this place the price of the piercing is fixed, but the rings are bargainable [as are most things in China]. My friend also bought a new ring, so together they were less expensive. Even so, they must have been about 3 times the price of the same rings in the United States due to Chinese taxation fees.

After picking the ring I was led upstairs to a comfy little room with a long black dentist-like chair. By then I was still pretty calm and cool, until of course I saw the actual needle. To describe the size I guess I must refer to those little red straws that they have in companies to stir your coffee with. That's about the same width as the needle. The length must have been about 3, maybe even 4 inches. Upon seeing it I stared a second and then the thought "Why oh why am I doing this to myself?" ran through my head. But then I saw my friend looking down at her own beautiful ring and my mind was made up.

I took a deep breath and lay down, finding the chair surprisingly comfortable. The man put on the clamps as he disinfected everything, and I must say that they do not hurt at all, despite what others may say. Then, just when I had started to relax the man turned around and thrust in the needle. Yes, it did hurt, but nothing that was unbearable. I looked down and saw the needle poking out of me, and was pretty astonished how little the gory scene hurt. Though the procedure is always pretty much the same, the methods of pierces can actually vary a lot. Some people pierce from bottom to top, while other go from top to bottom. Other piercers even work when the costomer is standing upright because they believe that helps them set the piercing straighter. I found out that these different ways really don't change the final result. These are just little quirks of the piercers, and it's how they do their job. As long as you go somewhre professional, the different ways don't matter. B efore I even knew it the ring had been put in and the area around cleaned. In fact, putting in the ring and cleaning it hurt more than the actual piercing. But all in all, I was totally happy and satisfied.

During the healing process, just try not to think of the ring inside you. All it really is is a cut, and that's what it feels like. Yes, it's a little sore, and you have to sit slowly, but it definately doesn't hinder you in moving around. After a few days it stops hurting so much and itches a tiny bit, just like a cut. I love my new piercing and I can't wait to get another one! After I got mine yet another one of my friends got hers as well! Suddenly everyone wants a belly piercing! It looks so pretty that I find myself constantly peeking at it and being amazed at how gorgeous it is every time!

Like tatoo's it's contageous. Got my tattoo 5 years ago and still happy with it. For tattoo you can also go underneath the Shanghai museum at Hong Kong Shopping center. They have a tatoo shop too, where you can select the designs and make an apppointment. Then where they take I don't know because I made my tattoo in Holland.

Just snoop around both places and make your mind Mr. Green

Office under renovation, noise and smell killed Giraffine. Took half a day off surfing online for coming May holiday trip, meanwhile downloading MP3s from KAZAA. Ever heard this song?

TATTOO

Well I heard you say something about friendship and loyalty
When you can't can't can't can't can't realize
That tears comes down anydays

My love to you is true
A tattoo
Ain't never going off
I'll wait for the truth to show
I'll take a loss at any cost

When we met you listened and you critizised
Every single thing that I did
When you can't can't can't can't can't realize
That tears comes down anydays

My love to you is true
A tattoo
Ain't never going off
I'll wait for the truth to show
I'll take a loss at any cost

??? to confusion I made it this far
You said I could've had anything
If I just looked at myself

My love to you is true
A tattoo
Ain't never going off
I'll wait for the truth to show
I'll take a loss at any cost
To me!
