how to get youtube or facebook in China?
some locals tell me that hey use VPN to use facebook, or watch BBC etc
I am a techno muppet and they are not able to explain clearly, can any person here direct me to supporting info on the web?
It is curious that Kaixing, Tudou etc all still work, presumably they are able to be heavily censored by our Beijing overlords |

I saw a post the other day where someone found an alternative to the Hotspot Shield called ItsHidden http://itshidden.com
I tried it last night and it worked fine, it's free with no advertising or any downloads required.
While I was logged on I checked speedtest.net and it showed the location as Amsterdam, and the speed seemed ok for facebook. |

another alternative is to use firefox with TOR plugin. You can google TOR to learn more about it. |

Use paid proxy. Also Ivacy.com have 100Mb free trial for UK/Russian VPN, it's enough for few days of facebook browsig. |

Waiting for the holidays to be over before taking action. If as I believe the censors will still make access damn difficult, I'll cave in and subscribe to a paying VPN  |

Free account w/ ItsHidden isn't working for me.
I've used it successfully in the past, as well as HSS & Witopia.
Also not seeing the IVACY free trial option....

PM'd you one that I've just started using (got sick of trying to use free ones for the last 6 months).
Can't tell you if it's the 'best', but it was easy to setup and allows to connect to US and UK servers, and speeds have been great and I think it's relatively cheap (£6.50 p/m via paypal).

I pay 6$ a month for my vpn.
Prefer to go month-month (as opposed to a 6 month or year plan) since some of these vpn outfits suck after awhile. |
