Post subject: looking for a house with garden in nanhui

we are moving to shanghai (from beijing) in a couple of months time. work location is near pudong airport, so we want to rent a place not too far from there. we have two dogs and two cats, so need a house with a garden, and in a very quiet area where it is safe, as our cats, being cats, are inclined to roam a little. we definitely don't want to live in an expat compound - would much rather a chinese community. we don't care about the usual facilities and services that come with expat compounds. we just want a nice house with garden, in a quiet street away from major roads. can pay up to rmb25,000 per month. too tall an order?? any suggestions?

Trinity villas(kangqiao bandu) is a nice place. Its quiet, good security and admisnitration. Those villas have back yards and are for about 5000-7000 rmb. Cambridge ones are a bit better than kangqiao villas..a bit new and were 10000-14000 rmb last year.
you should check some agents out in that area. make sure the contract you sign is translated in english aswell.

I think kangqiao bandu is quite pet friendly.

For starters, Where in Nanhui is your job? Not sure with all the re-zoning but Kangqiao used to be in Nanhui district but it is certainly not close to Nanhui the 'city'. There is not much to Nanhui, its small, there are a handful of foreigners and lacks any expat pleasures that you may desire. Rent is almost a third of what it costs in Shanghai. So even if you wanted to spend 25000 a month you most likely couldn't. The only thing near the city that may be up to your standard are the recently built 'villas' on Nanlu highway near the safari park.

Hi Jomaria,

I got to know an owner who just bought a nice house with a big garden and with an elegant decoration in Nanhui. The compound's name is Oriental Hawaii, the transporation around is very convenient. It can meet all the requirements you mentioned above.
If you want to know furhter, pls. feel free to let me know at juliaylchen1111@yahoo.com or 13816111549, I am willing to provide a help free of charge.Smile

Hi Jomaria. All that area out towards the airport is old farmlands so they all have major roads running through them. The Villas built are usually in compounds of 20, 30, 40 or so. Rarely you will find a single villa on a quiet back road. There's a number of nice more local villa compounds in that area. If I were you I would drive around the area on your arrival and just get the taxi to drive through a few compounds close to the airport. Pick a few compunds then go to a local agent in that area as the landlords usually leave their contacts on their books.

Good luck!

Adrienne
