Post subject: xbox 360 question

I am getting ready to move to shanghai and will my NA xbox 360 work in shanghai. I never brought a game console to shanghai before so I have no clue if it will work. My gf does have a tv with HDMI so I guess I could get a plug converter for it. ALso are the games region encoded? Or should I just sell my xbox before I leave its a newer jasper one to.

Your US Xbox 360 will work here, but you'll need new 220V AC Adaptor . Also most games are region free or you could buy NA games from Play-Asia (if they not region free). Delivery is very fast and free in China.

Bring it. Some people put it in a bag and carry it as carry-on luggage. I've packed them in the original box and put in my checked luggage 2 times (with extra padding around it).

You'll need a 220V transformer. About 700 watts, a few hundred RMB at the electronics malls (don't skimp on the wattage and it will last forever).

www.playasia.com has a comprehensive list of region codes/games, Asia (Hong Kong) and Japan coding is the most common, but as mentioned, more and more are region free.

XBOX is not officially supported in mainland China so the only shops that support XBOX are small places with limited selections. Best Buy and Toys-r-Us here do not (can not) support it and can't do you any favors.

HDMI, RGB, S-video, etc., all connections will work, it's not related to NTSC vs PAL, etc.

Forget the transformer. They are heavy and unneeded. When you get here buy a new power brick thats local power. I paid 150rmb for a brand new one recently.

Leave your power brick home.

Just make sure you get a power brick that is the right wattage 150 or 175.

Other options are, if you want to play el cheapo copy games then just leave your Xbox home and buy a new one when you get here for about $300 modded out of the box. Games cost about 75cents here. Cables also are cheap here, including HD Xbox cables.

Once you realize how cheap "local" games are you really wont want to spend $50 on games anymore, XBLive aside of course.
