Post subject: Proposed Family Activity Club

I'd like to get some indication of interest in the set-up of a family activity club in Shanghai. Is there a need, would it be welcome?

The idea would be to have regular arranged activies for families I.E. with kids (both local and ex-pat). Locations and activities chosen with kids in mind and a chance to meet others and make friends... for our kids too.

Please let me know - by a short posting here - if this would be a welcom addition to your lives in Shnaghai.

NOTE: This club would be strictly non-profit, run just for the fun of it.

Post subject: good idea

Great Idea, strongly support it!
I have an international family with son born in the U.S and daughter born in Singapore. My wife and I are Chinese and we are going back to work in Shanghai in Aug after staying overseas for quite some years. My son is 4 and daughter is 2.

Any idea for the venue of gathering? Maybe we can rotate to be host? or shall we do it outside somewhere?

my contact information is changning@hotmail.com

Regards
Ning

Also interested. Did a group ever get together as a result of this thread?

We are living in Puxi with a 4 year old. Some friends of a similar age would be great for him.

Does anyone have a suggestion for locations for this? I'm thinking we find a place where the kids can play and the adults can relax, chat, have a coffee, food, etc. Also thinking that this could be a regular weekend thing. Ideas?

There's a nice option for you at the Chang Feng Park. Here you can have a nice walk, play some sports, but also take your children to see the aquarium and also have a Whale stadium.

Visited this park myself with a friends family, who have a young son. He especially liked the Australian fur seals and performing whales. Mr. Green

Plus we weren't drained of energy at the end of the day. Hope you can have a look and hope your organisations of events goes well,

Have a nice day

Nice promo! Aquaria 21 at Cheng Feng Park (out past Zhong Shan Park) if you didn't get it... is a great place to take your kids. I've taken mine out there and we had a great time! Also, if your kids are young you could probably take them once every month or so and they would never get bored. A definite MUST for families in Shanghai!

What I am looking for is something that can be done on a weekly basis. A standing brunch reservation somewhere where kids can play safely.

Keep an eye out and please post any suggestions.

we went to the gubei renaissance hotel (formerly yangtze jiang hotel), next to the sheraton hotel, a few weeks ago. they have a champagne brunch for i think 198rmb (cheap by hotel standards), and have organized a special room on the second floor just for the kids. lots of games and a couple of minders. fairly relaxed atmosphere.

also went to the westin brunch a few months ago - although it was definitely better, the price reflected it - about 388rmb.... nothing but the best foods! (caviar, whatever). they had a kids area at one end of the restaurant, and the kids had their own buffet set up! and plenty of ayis to watch them.....

Yea, I go to the Westin Buffet quite often, but a bit on the pricy and indulgent side for a regular thing. Besides my kid is bouncing off the walls after all the chocolates in the kids area.

I haven't tried the YangZi Jiang.

heh heh - kids bouncing off the walls and grown-ups buzzed from all the bubbly - hmm somehow it doesn't paint a very appropriate picture of a nice wholesome family day out!

We are also interested. We have a 13 month year old and would like to meet other young families.

Please contact me if anything gets organized.

I think that if people who were really interested left their phone numbers, then something could be arranged within a shorter timeframe.

I would be willing to do this organizing but I would rather call people than email them.

Best,
